Say I'm playing a game on my iPhone and then I decide that it would be a better experience to play it on the iPad. i don't want to have to start the game from the beginning. is there a way to SSH in to the 1st device copy the data and then put it on the 2nd device. If so, what and where am I copying?

Thanks

I'm assuming of course I'm using the same version of the game. I could imagine that if I went from a standard to an HD version of the game the data might vary so i wouldn't try that.

Dunno but it's a good question.

Try downloading "AppLinks" from Cydia; that'll put a folder in /var/mobile/AppLinks that gives you symlinks to all the applications you have installed on your phone, and maybe you can see if there's any save data in the application folders?

The Documents and Library directories inside the individual app directory generally contains the actual save data. This is where you'll find what you need to copy.

Sure you can, itunes backups those data and you can ssh them back on a phone, have not been tested but in theory i think it sounds plausible.

You can use " AppBackup " .. it will backup all ur saved games on ur iDevice .. and u can ssh into it and get the folder .. then install " AppBackup " on another iDevice .. and copy the folder from the 1st iDevice into the 2nd .. Hope that helped

It may be a bit late now and your problem has probably been resolved, but I use the Cydia app DataDeposit, which does basically what AppBackup already did, but syncs with your DropBox account instead of having to play around with SSH. And it works great !! :)

Cool, thanks. It also looks (if I understand what I heard on the keynote correctly) like iCloud might solve the problem for good by saving the App and it's data in the iCloud. Which would mean that all my devices would have the same game saves too? Hmmmm?

Yeah that's basically what I understood as well !! I think it will probably work the same way iBooks does when it syncs what page of a book you're on across all your iOS devices ... Can't wait to see it actually in action though :)

  1. Go to /var/mobile/Applications/your game here/Documents/saves/saveData.bin
  2. Then copy the saveData.bin file from your iPhone and go to the same directory in your iPad and delete the saveData.bin from your iPad and paste the iPhone one.
  3. Respring.

Hope it helps. I've done it twice with angry birs and drag racing from my ipod touch 4g to my iPad 2.

P.S. copy all the .bin files from /saves. :D

I use iFunbox, in the apps section if you copy the documents folder inside every app, it stores save data. That's what I used so I could (finally) get rid of all 3 Infinity Blade games. On the side it has a list of devices, with drop down menus, the one with apps is User Applications, and it uses icons and app names, not the weird names like in /var/mobile/Applications/crazy gibberish game name
