How to fix some mysterious problems.

I followed the directions as I should, but while I am in the final stage in holding just the home button, the count down stops at 9 seconds. The Application just displays the ready to jailbreak button shaded in, with the selectable jailbreak! button to the bottom left. The device shuts off and never comes back on to do the jailbreak process, at 9 seconds it disconnects, and iTunes pops up because it detects an ipad in recovery mode. The ipad has to be turned back on at this point but holding the sleep and home button, as in a reset. It does not actually seam to go into recovery mode (Connect to itunes) because it boots up normally and all my data is there. I just updated my Jailbroken OS 3.2 iPad to 4.2.1 for this. This is how its supposed to work. Exit iTunes and click the buton in the borrow left hand corner that says "jailbreak"

The screen is black because the iPad is in dfu mode

That did it. I was trying to follow the video posted on LifeHacker, and I never saw the greenpoison logo pop up as in their video. So it stopped with a bunch of text on the ipad and said failed at the bottom, I held the sleep and home...and it scrolled through some more text and rebooted.

Found Loader, with a green icon, and installed Cydia. Sweet! Now its time to pull the list of old jailbroken apps out.

Something to note. Loader and cydia are not showing up on my springboard. I had to use the spotlight search to find them. Even after cydia was installed and updated, it is not showing up on the springboard, but I still do a search for it, and it shows up. Odd bug, but I'm fine with cydia being "hidden"

GP won't ever finish the last countdown, the final timer is set longer than it needs to be and stops when it detects your device in dfu mode. If you are continually gettin a failed message from GP, that is a separate problem, start of by checking your Internet connection and firewall settings and make sure that you're running GP in xp sp3 compatibility mode and as an administrator
