Question

I go on redsn0w then i click on Custom IPSW then i get my file for my iPhone 3gs: NO_BB_iPhone2,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw then it says will this be used on a newer fixed version i usually click yes cause i'm not sure what it means then after a couple of minutes it says Memory exhausted !

Umm. Where did my reply go? Anyway, what is your modem firmware? Why are you restoring to a custom ipsw? Do you need unlock? Basing from your serial number, that is a newer production 3Gs which may brick if you install iPad baseband.

i want to be able to use any sim card in it. And my modem firmware is 05.16.05 .. I have no idea which production its from i got it from apple as a replacement of my old iphone.

From your serial number xx136, it means your device was made 36th week of 2011. You cannot install iPad basbenad to be able to unlock on this device. Install iPad baseband will fry the baseband chip which then can be fixed only by physically changing the baseband chip. Sorry there is just no way to unlock that unless through official carrier unlocking. If its from at&t, they do not offer carrier unlocking.

From my list, telus is one of the few carriers in canada that does not offer carrier unlocking, but I could be wrong. Call them.
