You can download a programme called iREB (windoze) and click the middle button to reset and fix the 1015 error.

iREB r5 (For iOS 3.x.x to 5.x.x)

If that does not fix it, try making a custom ipsw using snowbreeze (also for windows), that will bypass the 1015 error as well. For best results do NOT hacktivate and make sure you have an original carrier SIM card to activate the iPhone via iTunes.

sn0wbreeze v2.9.1 (For iOS 3.1.3, 3.2.x, 4.0.x, 4.1, 4.2.1 to 4.2.8, 4.3 to 4.3.3, 5.0.1)

This might fix the boot problem, but for a newly bought phone a restore is recommended to clean everything and start from over.

please note what @http is referring to by "restore" is the snowbreeze method mentioned above, not a factory restore, especially if you rely on a software unlock or are experiencing a 1015 error (baseband conflict).

  1. Any iphone thats jailbroken, if you push the reset all settings button will get stuck in a loop
  2. An iphone 3g with 6.15.00 will fail with a stock restore with error 1015
  3. An iphone 3G will not kick out of recovery using ireb 1015 fixer or tiny umbrellas fix recovery

You need to use redsn0w (win or mac), pwnage tools (mac only), or sn0wbreeze (win only) to make a custom ipsw to restore to.

Exit Recovery should not be confused with FixRecovery (which is for 3GS and iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 and 4.3.x). Exit Recovery (or iREB) will work on iPhone 3G for iOS 4.1 and below. For 4.2.1, you will need to use a custom ipsw.

had 3 yesterday out of the 23 that i clicked the wrong custom, so i got a 1015 at the end (already had 6.15 on it but clicked my pwnage with ipad bb in it) and ireb would try to kick it, but it would just pop back to connect to itunes

Put it into DFU mode, then restore firmware. Version 3.1.3 is best for the 3G.

Ah, do that only if it's factory unlocked. Otherwise you should make sure not to update the baseband. If you're not sure, do this: 1. create custom firmware 3.1.3 with sn0wbreeze (Windows), 2. put device into DFU, 3. pwn the device with redsn0w, 4. restore created custom firmware with iTunes.

3.1.3 was the most optimal iOS for the iPhone 3G however most newer apps no longer support it. This will also not fix your 1015 problem which is caused due to a baseband / iOS version incompatibility conflict. If you wish to try 3.1.3, you will still get the 1015 error and will need to "exit recovery" via the iREB tool mentioned in the first answer to your question. best wishes!
