My Specs: iPhone 3GS (iOS 5.0.1) Unlocked Baseband 06.15.00

My questions:

  1. Can I modify Carrier Unknown.bundle/ATT_US.bundle to create TMobile_US.bundle with the appropriate sym links for T-Mobile's MCC and MNC? Does anyone know of already existing T-Mobile USA bundles?

  2. Inside the carrier bundle no image exists for the carriers name like in ATT_US. bundle etc. So I'm assuming the iOS creates an image on the fly for the carrier? If not I can't find its location in the fs.

  3. If I create a custom bundle called TMobile_US.bundle with the sym lnks will the iPhone know to use that? Or is there a carrier bundle manifest file somewhere that should also be modified?

  4. The current Unknown.bundle has a phone number in the UK which iMessage uses to activate. I want to change this number to the number found in ATT_US.bundle so I will no longer be charged for international texts. Should I do this in Carrier Bundle.bundle or Unknown.bundle or both?

  5. Does Apple still use a checksum to check the plist files in the bundle. If so does a utility exists to do this for me?

  6. The MCC I have for T-Mobile USA is 310 and the MNC is 026 and 260 I will create sym links for both, does anyone know of any others I should add?

  7. This site: http://www.volkspost.info/ipcc_fw3/ automatically generates Carrier Bundles, has anyone tried it with iOS 5?

The method I use is to patch CommCenter so it doesn't prompt for carrier updates in iTunes. CommCenter patch's second purpose is that it allows you to load unofficial bundles via iTunes so your iPhone will be like a factory T-Mobile device. The bundle includes everything you would expect including hotspot, pre-filled APN's, mms settings, My T-Mobile settings, T-Mobile dialling short cuts, and My T-Mobile bookmark in Safari. The bundle that will work for most T-Mobile users is called T-Mobile_US.ipcc. Let me know which one you need, I have all of them as well as the CommCenter patch deb. After you install the CommCenter tweak via Cydia, you can then upload the ipcc file in iTunes using the shift (or option for Mac) + update method. hope this helps!

(for clarification the CommCenter tweak is on my own repo, not in general Cydia repos, and the ipcc files, there are five different ones depending on your t-mobile account type are loaded via iTunes after you have saved them to your Carrier Update folder in iTunes back end data folders)

Make sure you activate iMessage and FaceTime prior to using this method. Also make sure any RecoveryGuard type tweaks are uninstalled or disabled prior to installing ipcc, you can enable after install.

I guess I need the T-Mobile_US.ipcc. I'm on a family plan.

okay, in Cydia add repo cydia.myrepospace.com/ipro and install CommCenter Patch, then request the T-Mobile.ipcc file from the comm center pkg page in Cydia, scroll down to where it says Package Details and select Contact ipro and request the ipcc that way.

can i do this method with non-JB iphone 4s (iOS 5.1)? im using T-mobile with factory unlocked iphone 4s. I updated my mms_override.plist using ibackupbot that enabled me to send and receive MMS. However, my problem is, I cannot send group messaging when there's different phones in the group (iphones and non-iphones). I can send SMS to multiple recipients which is delivered individually (replies are individual as well, & not to the entire group) I can only send group messages through iMessage, but some of friends are not using iphones. I'd like to have a chat-like group messaging that all members of the group can read and reply messages in one thread. I'd like to know if i can update commcenter and carrier bundle to enable group messaging to DIFFERENT PHONES (without JB)...

There is no group message menu option in settings for T-Mobile_US however group messaging still works fine if you enter multiple recipients in Send field of sms.
