I used redsn0w to jailbreak iphone 3G. It had previously been jailbroken, but I accidentally updated it to the most recent version (4.2.1) and lost both jailbreak and unlock. I used redsn0, jailbroke and unlocked, but get no service now. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you in advance. |

Not sure if this was fixed in IRC, but you seem to not have WiFi to allow Cydia to function and need an unlock. You can install Cydia manually by placing (use iphone browser for mac) the required debian files in the folder /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall/ The debians you need are: Note these are not the latest but are tested compatible with Cydia installation of old redsn0w, once unlocked and you have internet access make a full update. This was not yet fixed. And you're right, my WiFi seems to have been broken. The problem is I used Ultrasn0w previously, Cydia was installed, but still got no service. Will your solution fix this? As for now, the phone has been updated via iTunes again, so it needs to have the whole process done again. Will be grateful if someone would lead me step by step. as i said above, download the two files on your computer, then use iphone browser for mac to place the two debian files on your jailbroken iPhone in the folder /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall/ and then reboot, the debians will be installed and your iPhone unlocked. http://www.4shared.com/file/lT773_4S/mobilesubstrate_0933676g629fcf.html
I used iExplorer to browse iPhone, unfortunately, I don't see the folder you give. I found private/var/root/Media, but when I try to access Media, there's no Cydia installed. Please, let me know what should I do. Create the folders that don't exist and place the debian files inside ad reboot. You can create the "Cydia" and "AutoInstall" directories if they aren't there yet. And along with Mobile Substrate and ultrasn0w, the third useful file to install is Substrate Safe Mode - there's a link over here. Already found out (thank you, google) that I need to create the folders; just now putting the debian files. Did this, but still no service :(. Reboot again make sure you have 3g off in settings>general>network Should I mark "update to iPad baseband" when using redsn0w? Or just install Cydia and allow battery percentage, as suggested? what baseband do you have, i thought you had the iPad baseband but i went back through the question and you have not mentioned it? Go to Settings-> General -> About and tell us what version is listed next to modem I'm using the latest version of redsn0w to jailbreak, i.e. 0.9.10.b5c In order to tell you what baseband I have, I need to jailbreak first, right? Because otherwise, I only get "emergency call" screen. Ok, something bad must have happened, because now my iPhone doesn't even want to reboot when I use redsn0w so I can't jailbreak. Modem Firmware 05.15.04 i thought it was jailbroken already!! anyway, baseband version can be read without jailbreaking, go into Settings -> General -> About and the baseband version is the same as the one for Modem Firmware version number. ok ultrasn0w will not unlock 5.15.04, you have to update to iPad baseband which is unlockable by ultrasn0w, however you will loose GPS function for ever. run redsn0w and select only the iPad BB update (de-select the install cydia option) and let us know how it goes with you. It had been jailbroken, but then I needed to update it again via iTunes and do the whole process again, because it didn't work. Already did this. Anyway, I couldn't have seen this without jailbreaking, because - as I wrote - I only got "emergency call" screen. So the baseband version is 05.15.04. What do I do? As I read, updating to iPad baseband is irreversible. I need to have the iPhone unlocked, hope this is still possible with iPad baseband. Is there any other way to unlock the phone? I'm really afraid that updating to iPad baseband is going to brick the iPhone and make it useless. Would it be possible to e.g. downgrade? Thank you all for your help, you're more than patient to a newbie like me. There is no downgrade. Updating to the ipad baseband is your ONLY option if its not old enough to use fuzzyband |

WHY ARE YOU BUMPING A THREAD THAT'S OVER A YEAR OLD (AND WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR CAPS LOCK BUTTON)? sorry dude,i thought it might help thats all,and ya forgot to hit the cap button off 1
@zawad Do not bump ancient threads and stop posting "answers" in our FAQ. hey whats the problem, just tell me that.whats making you go rude |
Not necessarily. Plug the phone in, go to http://ih8sn0w.com and download and run F0recast. Then post back here with what the bootloader version is for your phone. We may be able to downgrade you.
F0recast won't run on my Mac. No idea why. Any other way to check the bootloader version?
Have a friend with a windows machine handy?
Yep. Should I try to run F0recast on a PC?
wont fuzzyband tell you whether it will work or not in app?
oh, i suppose it would, the best thing would be for him to come into the live chat. I could work with him better there.
I can't really access apps, since I get this message: "no Internet connection". Also, I can't seem to do anything using Cydia. No service whatsoever.
I'm in the live chat. Really hope something can be done with the phone :(, although I kinda start to lose hope.
