How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have a Windows Domain with a share where all my photos and music is. On the Windows Server there is of course no iTunes running.

Is there an app or tweak or any way I could access all these files (without IIS) from my iPhone? Best solution would be to have iFile be able to connect to a share, but that won't happen for now.

I think/hope this is what you're looking for, but on the AppStore there's a really good app called iFiles (coincidental? :P), though I think it's $4, it's worth it.

Edit: See NetPortal on the AppStore, it has a lite version.

Sorry for the downvote, but it look like I just lost real money. I bought the app because it seemed to do what I asked for. But now using it, I can only add services like FTP, Cloudspace, Dropbox, etc., but no Windows Share. Or I'm doing something wrong.

Of course you can connect from Windows to the iPhone, but a ton of other Apps can do that too. I want to connect from the iPhone to Windows.

"" I bought the app because it seemed to do what I asked for. But now using it, I can only add services like FTP, Cloudspace, Dropbox, etc., but no Windows Share"" Soooo how is this @jonSeals fault exactly? And he did say he thought it was what you were looking for.....I think it would be up to you to make sure it is what you are looking for before spending money on it IMO.

That edit (NetPortal, full version aka FileBrowser) looks much better. If this works as intended, I'll transfer some karma to you. I just thought that this functionality might not be possible on non-jailbroken devices (that's why I asked here). But maybe it is.

I don't see why it wouldn't be unless you disable security checks :P

I don't blame him for the money I spent. That's my fault. I just downvoted for the wrong answer which indeed helped to make a wrong decision and waste the money. And I can always come back and change this if the other App works.

all i am saying is that if it were me i would have researched said app, (before buying) after getting the suggestion, if it would not do what i had hoped i would have just added such info in the comments section, not voted him down....but this is just me.

Ok, the second app was a hit. NetPortal (Lite) can access shares ($3). It's iPhone only and intended for iOS 3.x. I bought their newer product called "FileBrowser" ($5) which is essentially the same as NetPortal, but requires iOS 4.2 or higher and is a universal App (for iPad too). It's still very limited compared to iFile due to the App Store limitations, but I can browse my photos, films and music on my Windows Server and this is what I wanted. I'll try to get a refund for the other one, maybe it works.

Regarding your downvote, I just wanted to change that, but after one day it's blocked and cannot get changed anymore. But I accepted your answer and will transfer you 30 karma points. I hope this is ok for you.

No need to do the transfer, I'm glad to see netportal works for you :)

That's an answer to a question I never asked. But still a good idea. I'll try.

I'd like to provide feedback on this. I tried as described and selected in the report category "functionality not as described" (or similar) and wrote a long text. After clicking Send button, it immediately said "for functionality issues, please contact developer, here's the link. However, we store feedback about this product." So I obviously selected the incorrect feedback category and doing it a second time was not possible ("you already reported feedback for this product"). Then I tried the standard support link mentioned in your article. After clicking through there, looping back to the "select country" several times, I found a general (local) feedback form, where I submitted the issue with an even longer description in local language again. Today I received an email from Apple saying "yes, description there is not clear; we will refund your credit card in 10 days". Seemed to have worked.
