I have an iPod touch 5.0.1 stock fw. I'm using redsn0w 0.9.10b4. I'm running xp service pack 2 and running as administrator,. When I open up redsn0w, I follow the DFU instructions without hassle, but when I get to exploiting with limera1n my iPod goes into recovery mode and the process stops. This has happened the last 4-5 attempts. I tried going into DFU before opening redsn0w. What am I doing wrong?

Point to the iOS 5.0.1 stock IPSW in Extras and see if that works.

Try opening task manager after you start redsn0w, look for the redsn0w.exe process, right click and select Set Affinity. Uncheck CPU1. Then continue with jailbreak. This has worked for some.

When I open task manager I don't have any of those options.

this happened to me too. to fix download the iOS 5.0.1 .ipsw file and make sure that you click "Save As" and add ".ipsw" at the end of the filesave name. Then go to extras-select IPSW and select the 5.0.1 file. it should work now. you may need to point it there everytime you open up redsn0w
