What to do (backup) before doing a jailbreak on iphone 4 ios 4.2.1 (8c148) with modem 03.10.01?

Will apple detect if i do a restore after a jailbreak? Just in case i need to send my unit for warranty purposes, since apple will not honor jailbroken iphones.

This helped me back up my iPhone contacts before jailbreaking my iphone 4 some time ago.

However, no need to backup your iPhone if you use a computer and the evasi0n Jailbreak as the app will backup and restore in the process.

In itunes before you jailbreak right click on your phone and select "back up".

To wipe the jb completely in the future you will need to restore and set up as a new phone.

If you are worried about preserving you baseband you need to use a custom IPSW but I don't know much about that as it's not something I am concerned with.

The reason for backing up before I jailbreak is if I decide I don't want it jailbroken or it messes up I have a clean restore point.

Actually, there is no way to create a custom firmware at the moment (that I know of). Here is the way to preserve the baseband of an iPhone4 and upgrade to 4.2.1.

After that is done, you can use greenpois0n to make the jailbreak untethered.

Save everything you want to keep any longer, apps, fotos, video, contacts, all can achieved by marking in itunes when it recognizes your phone. Normally you don't need to backup, just when you jailbroke tethered before with rs then you must.

Apple won't detect that, you can easily install a stock firmware again so that nobody knows whats on the phone before.
