Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.1.3 are not jailbreakable. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 8.2 or 8.1.3 to earlier versions.

I'm a MAC user in Scotland trying to take my 3GS (4.3.3, baseband 6.15.00, old boot rom, jailbroken, unlocked) up to 5.0.1 unlocked and jailbroken. Using Redsnow I made the NoBB 5.0.2 custom IPSW. I run this custom IPSW through iTunes. After seeming to run the update software and update firmware processes iTunes brings me back in a circle to the message <<an iphone="" detected="" in="" recovery="" mode="">>. Have tried to use Tiny Umbrella but TU doesn't seem to recognise the iPhone at this stage, showing a question mark in the list of devices, and clicking Fix Recovery doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong, how do I complete the upgrade?

Make sure tinyumbrella is pointing to apple and not cydia hosts file, then turn off tinyumbrella and restart your restore in iTunes... Make sure the device is in pwned dfu using redsn0w extras... Make sure you point to the custom ipsw you created in iTunes. Tinyumbrella cannot be running when restoring

Are you using upgrade or restore process in iTunes? If upgrade you cannot do this

Using Restore process in iTunes, not Upgrade. Pretty sure I am in paowned dfu through Redsn0w extras. TU boxes in Advanced are unchecked for both "set hosts to Cydia" and "request SHSH from Cydia". Is this what you mean by pointing TU to Apple? Thanks.
