Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

basically, im based in the uk. its a friends iphone which he wanted me to get working for him, he also gave me an att sim i dont know why because as you already no that network doesnt exsist here. it wouldnt turn on so i restored it using itunes, once it was on it wanted to be activated and i dont know what network its on so i used snowbreeze to hacktivate it. now thats done its now jailbroken aswel. the baseband is 06.15.00 the iccid says no sim. carried says not availible. im not too exprienced with iphones, but on my iphone 4 when i take the sim out it usually says no sim, whereas on on this iphone 3gs its not recognising the sim at all?

Did you install ultrasn0w in Cydia?

yes just installed it, deos it unlock it? its made no difference at all :/

Since it's already on 6.15, just install ultrasn0w from cydia as @iH8sn0w advised. I was hoping you can save your gps by going the official unlock route if you didn't have 6.15 baseband yet.

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 3GS. It is from AT&T. I am in India with no AT&T chip, but a Vodafone Prepaid without data plan. First, I used redsn0w 0.9.9b6 on IOS 4.3.3, as I did not know what version I had. It connected to iTunes. It detected a carrier with only 1 bar of cellular signal. I was unable to make/receive calls or messages. I upgraded the phone to IOS 5.0.1. It kept giving me a Unrecognizable Build error on Jailbreak. I read the FAQ and then used redsn0w 0.9.10b3, and had to manually specify the IPSW, which got the phone to Jailbreak correctly, restoring the previous backup from iTunes as well. WiFi works, but now there is a No Service message.

So, it just means this I spent $20 and a whole night for nothing! Are there any other avenues?

uhhh... how did your $20 come in the story? Scammed? Get a refund.

i am sure he buy some ^software that claims to unlock/jailbreak all devices^

if you paid by paypal open a dispute to claim the money back ..
