How to fix some mysterious problems.

Since simultaneously upgrading to 4.2.1 and then jailbreaking with greenpois0n, I've had an infuriating issue. When autocorrect pops up with that little box that you can tap to disable the correction, well tapping it does nothing, so it can't really be bypassed. Also when a word gets red underlined for a spell check correction, tapping it for suggested spelling corrections does nothing. Its like "what are you trying to select me?". And if I hit select, then tap replace, it just unselects... A bug if I've ever seen one. Why is this? What can i do? Suggest a restore and hope?

When you originally jailbroke, was it from a fresh install of 4.2.1?

This is weird. try downloading stuff from cydia that tweak auto corrector. you might be able to disable and then reanable auto correction. Search "AutoCorrection" in Cydia and download the SBsettings toggle. Turn off, reboot, and then turn on, and reboot? EDIT: you must also have SBsettings to use the toggle.
