I don't know, but you can call Apple and get that information.

Yeah the best thing to do is call Apple.

Actually, if you don't want to call Apple, the model number should be good to narrow down to country, mainly the last characters of the model number are the indicative ones, what have you got?

ok the imei is ...012755004232901

(14 Nov '11, 06:29) papi papi's gravatar image

that's not the model number, the model number is listed in Settings -> General -> About -> Model

(14 Nov '11, 06:54) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

You can tell which country it came from by the suffix in settings/general/about/model. Example MC603ZA is from Singapore. MC603ZP is from HK/China. MC603C from Canada. But if its a refurb unit, this method is not accurate.

since it wasn't mentioned refurb units are usually marked with a serial number beginning with 5K, if refurbed the Model Number as justinred noted may not indicate the current country of issue.

Justin: How you know about these ?? Any webbys to help a noob her e?

to add to justinred's reply, 603 = 16 GB and 605 = 32 GB.

if you can't differentiate. call apple and let them know of your serial number, they'll tell you which carrier the phone was issued to.

well i called the apple shop here in ghana and the guys said they can't unlock my phone!!!! WT-?!!! so i went to town and saw this guy who has all these codes from different countries on his laptop and he confirmed it's locked in CANADA. unfortunately he hasn't the code for canada so he couldn't factory unlock my phone :( . i then asked him about the gevey and he said he's expecting one to unlock the dreaded 04.11.08 baseband THIS FRIDAY! ... sounds a bit dodgy but he sounded very confident.....what do you guys think?? should i believe him????? he didn't ask for any payments to be made tho

(15 Nov '11, 09:15) papi papi's gravatar image

(15 Nov '11, 16:23) ayzeee ayzeee's gravatar image

so it looks like there's no factory unlock for canadian locked iphones...damn

(16 Nov '11, 16:08) papi papi's gravatar image

Yes there is if you bought it from apple store or apple online canada contract free. Canadian carriers also offer official unlocking for a fee.

(16 Nov '11, 18:35) justinred ♦ justinred's gravatar image

But* they might ask you some questions which you may not be able to answer. Like how much the last bill was or a security password's answer. If the guy you've bought the phone from can provide you with those, that'd be great but i highly doubt that.

I do recommend you to try your luck though.

can i get a link for rogers' online unlocking ???

(17 Nov '11, 10:36) papi papi's gravatar image

This link should help.

Please do note their terms to unlock a device :P

(17 Nov '11, 13:04) ayzeee ayzeee's gravatar image

Apple has a master list of Countries and Carriers, plus those who offer unlocking (certain terms may apply). This list is particularly useful once you have narrowed down the Country using the Model Number identification method. Then you can just try activating from your SIMs from that country/carrier and/or the SAM method if SIM's are not available. hope this helps, best wishes!

This post is pointless as this method (as per the article, and everyone here knows) that Apple has blocked IMEI checkers from showing the carrier. The SAM method pulls the info from the Model number so it's only a guesstimate and is completely unnecessary as you can easily guess this on your own from the Model Number eg, if it says MC604B then you know it is one of six UK carriers (which is as far as SAM will get you). Not trying to harp on additional info, we appreciate all info, it's just that this info is several months outdated and no longer applicable nor relevant. So we go back to the beginning.. (just call Apple).

Plus it's a thread pre-dating the Nixon administration.
