How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi, ive got 3GS with new bootrom and latest official baseband, and for the time being I have NOT made any unofficial actions for it. So its fully 'stock' to start with.

My question is: if I now jailbreak it with greenpois0n, will I be able to update it with iTunes to iOS 4.3 when its released?

My quess is that prior to JB I first have to take backup of my latest official iPhone backup in iTunes and then roll it back before updating to iOS 4.3. Then, when the update to 4.3 is complete, the phone will be as it was before jailbreak with all the current data/apps/whatever from that backup in question.

The goal of the entire topic is: am I able to get back to my original 'stock' status, and if thats possible whats best course of action?

You should always be able to restore to 'stock' by pressing the Restore button in iTunes.
The only exception I know of atm is if you update your baseband to 6.15.XX to carrier unlock it. In that case you will not be able to restore it to a 'stock' state. You would need to make a custom ipsw with a tool like pwntool or sn0wbreeze if they were available for that iOS version.

NOTES:
Updating your baseband is only needed if you want to use it on a carrier besides At&t.
Most jailbreakers try NOT to update the baseband.

Yes that certainly answered the most important question. Thank you.

But do I need to do that restore before upgrading to iOS 4.3 or does the iOS upgrade clean the old jailbreak fully from my phone resulting in 'stock' status?

And what is the proper way to handle backups so that after iOS 4.3 I have 'stock' backups as well? Thank you for you all for your answers.
