Iphone 3gs i think it's 4.2.1 or 4.3.1 been trying everything to get past it. redsnow, greenpoison, pwnagetool, nothing works :-( I can get it into DFU mode. I've got it all the way up to the skeleton face for greenpoison, but it just stays there, NOT loading. Then it eventually shuts off and cuts back on on it's own. then its back at recovery mode :-(

I just need to get into my phone so that I can bluetooth all my info to my next phone, or back it up or something. I have close to 2000 pics, 1000 contacts, and hundreds of important notes. Please Please Please help. thanx

if your on a Mac you can use PodtoMac to pull media off(contacts, pics, movies etc.) off. Of course, assuming it is already jailbroken. its also good for retrieving data from back-ups.

Whats put you into recovery mode?

(19 Sep '11, 17:08) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

I'm on widows 7. I don't know. It said 16% battery life then it just died. When i plugged it up to the charger, when I finally got enough juice to cut on it was in recovery mode

(19 Sep '11, 17:45) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

also I haven't synced it to Itunes in quite some time

(19 Sep '11, 17:46) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

Does itunes recognise it?

(19 Sep '11, 18:01) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

no

(19 Sep '11, 18:12) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

Well I guess it would be easy enought to get it recognised, but only for a restore. Have you tried accessing the filesystem to pull the information off?

(19 Sep '11, 18:19) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

How do I do that?

(19 Sep '11, 18:34) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

Do what, access the filesystem?, @curly420 gave you a link up there^^^, use google for others that also do the job

(19 Sep '11, 18:35) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

and this works even while your phone is in recovery mode?

(19 Sep '11, 18:41) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

I don't know, but you have an iphone in recovery mode so I guess you'll be telling me the answer

(19 Sep '11, 18:42) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

so, iTunes does recognise it in recovery mode? if not this is a key issue.

(19 Sep '11, 22:16) blue skies blue%20skies's gravatar image

I'm sorry I meant yes iTunes does recognize that its in recovery mode

(20 Sep '11, 03:09) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

Then you need to make sure you answer correctly when asked, how can you be helped properly when you don't give correct answers to simple questions, probably explains why you're in this mess in the first place....you see just up there ^^^ where I asked you "Does itunes recognise it?", click on show all and see your answer.

Ok, so downloaded podtopc. Itunes recognizes my iphone in recovery mode, but podtopc doesn't recognize my iphone at all. I have to get the phone out of recovery mode first. Any other ideas??

@venusanann I made a mistake...I corrected it by giving you the right information when I recognized I made a mistake. Now that u have the right information do u have any other solutions?

(20 Sep '11, 18:48) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

2000 pics, 1000 contacts, and hundreds of important notes

also I haven't synced it to Itunes in quite some time

Sorry, don't have the answer, I just find those two statements illustrative.

@kwas does the sim card need to be in the phone to do that?

(20 Sep '11, 02:31) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

try PodtoPc it has a free trial so u can test if it will even work in ur phones current state

(20 Sep '11, 02:40) cybr1d ♦ cybr1d's gravatar image

it doesn't need to have the sim card in it.

(20 Sep '11, 02:47) blue skies blue%20skies's gravatar image

@kwas & @blue skies - if either of you bothered to read the thread you will see that the OP has already stated itunes does not recognise it, why anyone would vote up or even write an answer before doing that is beyond me....@kwas, why the need to write 2 consectutive answers?, why not just edit the first one?

(20 Sep '11, 03:06) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

Nope didn't work, it did take me all the way to the greenposi0n skull. The load circle kinda started then stopped. Then it rebooted and went back to recovery mode

(20 Sep '11, 03:12) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

I will try podtopc 2morow. Originally I thought it was only for mac

(20 Sep '11, 03:14) CosmoProph CosmoProph's gravatar image

So how did you use PwnageTool then?, because from your original question it would be right to think you are on OSX, so you can run the program that @Curly420 linked you to.

(20 Sep '11, 03:19) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

Try holding down both power and home buttons at the same time until it shirts down then comes back on then has the icon saying to connect to iTunes then try tiny umbrella

Well, to get into Recovery you most likely had it plugged in to your PC/Mac, and iTunes automatically backups all your stuff when you sync.

It's natural to sync (at least for me) when I'm going to do some jailbreaking-related task on my computer, so if you have this same habit, your data is all safe. If you end up restoring your device will prompt you to "Restore data from Backup". Just agree and you will have all your data back how it was on your device.

To get out of Recovery Mode I'd try doing what @venusanann said, as it's certainly better just to get out of that than restoring.
