How to fix some mysterious problems.

I've gone through 30+ failed attempts with my unjailbroken ipod touch 4g, 4.2.1. My ipod goes into recovery mode instead of dfu every time. With 30+ attempts, it couldn't be that i have bad timing during the process. Is it possible that my ipod is unable to enter dfu?

With the device on and plugged in to your pc.....press both the power and home button until the device turnes off and as soon as the device turns off release the power button and keep holding the home button (up to 15 seconds) until your computer recognizes your device in dfu mode. once in dfu open greenpois0n and click jailbreak.

I tried doing what you said with no luck. When i follow GPs instructions, i'm okay until i hit Jailbreak. At that point, Itunes opens and tells me that i'm in recovery (the box to auto-open itunes is not checked). I close itunes. GP will say it's jailbreaking. Sometimes it will say failed and other times it will say successful. Two files usually show up on my desktop. I've watched videos of this being done successfully. One major difference between the videos and my process (other than itunes opening) is that i never get the text to show up on my ipod screen. Usually i get a picture of a usb connecting to itunes instead.

you are getting into dfu if you are getting to the point where gp allows you to press jailbreak. fyi when your in dfu itunes will view that as being in recovery. when you jailbreak It should go white screen then verbose boot(text on screen) then animated logo then reboot. Im not sure what your issue is because you are definitly getting into dfu. If i were you i would try a full restore then jailbreak.

I've actually restored twice already. The only thing that ever shows up on my ipod screen during this process is a picture of a usb connecting to itunes.
