i saw this blog http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2011/07/26/unpatched-iphonesipads-secure-connections-not-so-secure/ and i was wondering if what it said was true? should i install this patch or just leave my iphone alone?

Yeah, that's a good question. I want to keep my jailbreak, so I'm not updating, but I would recommend avoiding using public WiFi networks, especially when you're doing anything with sending private information online (including logging in with passwords in apps or Safari).
