Trying to enter DFU mode and it can't find my device. Maybe it's the USB cable because it wasn't for iPhone 3g but the classic iPod.

Does iTunes see your device in DFU?

Does iTunes see it normally? Are you sure you are in DFU? Tell me how you are doing it? And it is possible it is your cable, try a different USB port

iTunes doesn't even see that my iPhone is in. I'm pretty sure I'm in DFU, I can't turn it on unless I hold the power and home button for like a couple of seconds. And I'm doing it off of Redsn0w. Following instructions, and it probably is the cable. I think. Just checking to make sure it's possible though.

were you using a different cable before this one and itunes saw the phone? If so and you just switched to this ipod cable i would say it is probably the cable.....if you can get another iphone cable and it still happens come back and we can work through it.

Thank you so much. This isn't actually an iPhone I bought just passed down. So I'm pretty sure it's the cable.

Plug it into your computer, put it into DFU mode (hold the power button and home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the home button for another 15 seconds), and then click the "Restore" button in iTunes. That should put it back into a normal state.

hi i was able to restore my iphone through itunes..it took some time for me to download and then the itunes showed processing files, after a few second everthing goes unmoved and since then the apple logo is back again itunes cannot detect my phone :( :(

It had downloaded iOS 5.1.1

^ to correct Britta, hold power & home for 10 seconds, then release power but keep holding home until your computer makes the sound that it makes signaling a device was connected to enter DFU mode, then restore. Don't use redsn0w as it will be tethered, not untethered, use Absinthe to prevent accidents.

@vikramverma777 It sounds like your device might actually have hardware problems, especially since it was randomly rebooting by itself and won't restore properly with iTunes. :(

britta thank you so much for the help..in the end it did work out for me m/ m/ but now what i m trying to resolve is, after getting it restored it says your phone is not activated put a valid sim and activate it.

It goes through this step: Select language --> Select country --> select WIFI --> then try to activate the sim.

Since i got my phone from US and now i m in India, i dont have a valid sim to activate my phone, is there is a work around for this too??

Thanking you in advance :)

If you jailbreak it with redsn0w, that will "hacktivate" it.

@vikramverma777 There are no software-based unofficial unlocks available for iPhone 4 on recent basebands. You may be able to ask the iPhone's original carrier for an official unlock.
