Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.


How to jailbreak iOS 6.0-6.1.2 untethered on all iOS devices (and 6.1.3 tethered on older iOS devices).
Apple has released iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4; do not upgrade/restore (if you want to keep your jailbreak). You cannot downgrade/upgrade/restore to 6.1.2 using SHSH blobs on newer devices; older devices that can use SHSH blobs are iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th gen. Learn more.

iPad 2 (4.3.3) + JBme (and RS) = iBooks crashing...

I've tried downloading "iBooks fix" and it doesn't work.

Anyone know of a fix?

Other info: 4.3.3 Wifi 16GB

Update1: it's only crashing when I open Purchased Books.

Update2: A temporary fix is available for now: Removing iBooks v1.3 and installing v1.22 seems to work.

Update3: Can anyone confirm that the new "Essential Upgrade" of Cydia fixes the iBooks issue?

Update4: Essential Upgrade is confirmed NOT to fix the iBooks issue. I don't even know whether or not @comex is aware of this error yet. It's not mentioned anywhere on the front page. Only Camera Connection Kit, biteSMS and Verizon JB have been addressed. I've restored back to original firmware, I need my purchased book and cannot do without them. Until this issue is addressed, keep away from a jailbreak if you need to read Purchased Books!!!

Unlike those other bugs, iBooks unfortunately has crashing problems on devices jailbroken with redsn0w and other methods too - it's not just JailbreakMe.

I'm with you, I just restored my ipad2 3G and re-jailbreakme 3.0, and the iBook was fine. After I've download PDF patch, the iBook went crazy again (that's the reason I restored it). Any solution yet? I've been trying to reach comex to tell him about this issues, but no luck yet.

Update5: I emailed @comex directly about this issue and got the following response: "Known issue which I will be working on in the near future." So he is aware of it - we'll just have to wait for a fix in the near future....

Finally! Someone that is sharing the same issue as me!

I have restored, rejailbroken with no success. I'm currently not jailbroken, as I need my books.

It's certainly an issue with purchased books, and iBooks only crashes as I open a purchased book. This starts happening AS i jailbreak. Cydia installs, I reboot and purchased books start crashing iBooks. So it's definitely not something installed with Cydia.

I found the fix you have to download a .deb file of iBooks v 1.2.2 if u can find it or go on an app downloading app ( not the app store and I can't mention the name) and search iBooks and download v.1.2.2

Mine crashes as well, but only when I open the book I purchased after the jailbreak. Hopefully someone can use this info for a fix.

Is iBooks crashing or is it the DRM issue? I haven't heard of it failing to run.

iBooks is crashing. It's don't think it's the DRM issue as before because that "configuration notification" doesn't pop up and neither does the old iBooks fix patch work. It just crashes a couple of seconds after I open the app. I've tried hard reset, restore, re-jailbreak... Everything and instill can't open my books.

Exactly like Kastr0, I have the same problem with iBooks crashing on IP4 after Jailbreaking with RedsnOw 0.9.6rc16. The same thing also happen after jailbreaking with the latest Jailbreakme 3.0. But the strange thing is that my iPad1 on RedsnOw rc16 works perfectly. So not sure if this is due to something I downloaded from Cydia that is making iBooks crashing or something else.

It must be a cydia tweak. iBooks works (well it runs, it still has the DRM issue, but I much prefer Stanza anyway) for me on my 2 iPod4's and my iPad, all running 4.3.3.

That is exactly what happens with mine. Also if you put it in Safe Mode the same thing would happen. Try and see if this also happens to you.

Strange...my iBooks is not crashing with any books. I don't have any "purchased" books, but I do have some "free" books that were kind of purchased via iBooks that open fine. Just a FYI so as to maybe help with figuring out what's going on.
