What is the best way to jailbreak and unlock iphone 3g firmware 4.2.1 baseband 05.15.04 without the carrier SIM card? Can it be done? Thanks in advance to all you wonderful people. |
redsn0w 0.9.6rc17 will jailbreak + install the iPad baseband for a unlock. you have to install the iPad baseband (6.15) using redsn0w. but it has side effects, read below. WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
Guide: (restore to 4.2.1 if you haven't)
Sorry to be such a noob, but should I put in a SIM card before I jailbreak? 1
no need. I tried using redsn0w 0.9.8rc17 (win) but during 'fetching ipad baseband files', redsn0w just quits. could it be the apple servers storing the baseband files restricting the 'fetch'? I tried several times. :-( I even tried disbling the anti-virus software. Any ideas? 1
Make sure that you aren't downoading something else or your brother isn't playing xbox on your Internet connection. thanks, closing the browser and other internet applications did the trick. :-) |
I mean AT&T don't do official unlocks but many other providers do, which is an option that should be exhausted before doing the dreaded iPad BB option. Do you know the iPhones origin?, where are you based? The owner of the iphone (my brother) is based in Canada. I suspect the operator was Rogers, maybe. But I am not in Canada. 1
Well if you want to avoid the iPad BB you may have to apply yourself a little, it's your choice in the end, I'm just pushing the option coz it's a better one than the iPad BB, if it's available via the original carrier 1
I'm on Rogers and they WILL NOT unlock the phone for you. @therealcmac i remember hearing that Canadian carriers were going to start offering official unlocks for a fee, did this become true or has some tough conditions? Ok, I did sone looking on the Internet and apparently Rogers and fido will unlock you phone when your initial contract has run it's course for a fee of $50, there are a bunch of rules attached such as the phone must have been under your name and on your contract, you cannot buy a phone off of eBay and have them unlock it for you. Very interesting and definitely not something that they advertise AT ALL. I believe TELUS may be planning or already does the same thing. I have a buddy that works there I will talk to him and get the lowdown :) @knightz4u just talked to customer support for Rogers and yes they will unlock an iphone that you had under contract when the contract is finished as long as your account is in good standing! HA, I learn all kinds of things around here, i will definately have to remember that when i buy my new iphone 7 when my contract expires :p thanks, but I am not in Canada right now. It's my brother's old iphone, he's the one who lives in Canada. So I had no choice but to upgrade to bb 6.15 to make it work :-( |
Hi I followed the directions and started with Iphone 3gs (older then the warning in the redsn0w install). I now have cydia on my iphone, but my phone won't connect to the internet. The wifi button is greyed out and I cannot select it. I was on AT&T a few years ago with the phone and have lived out of country since the contract ended. When I left the country the wifi stopped working. I can't get online and Cydia won't seem to do anything without internet connect. Is there anything I can do? Have I installed this 6.15.00BB for nothing now? Thanks! |
redsnow quits while updating baseband files..i have tried atleast 10 times.. there are no internet apps running. i have stopped even the antivirus
ok the fix to the above problem was to uncheck install cydia..anyway i got past that and now redsnow is stuck at ""waiting for reboot"
ok..ran redsnow in compatibility mode and got past that..now phone is stuck with connect to itunes logo(recovery mode) what to do?
got past that but phone still shows baseband 5.15.04? what did i miss
