Holding home+power should do it, how long have you held the buttons? A black screen is not recovery mode, you're likely in DFU. Recovery shows the iTunes>USB graphic. I guess it is in DFU, but i have held home and power for a long time and all that happens is that there is a quick change of brightness then it turns black again. Release the buttons as soon as the screen flashes like that. Hmmm.. need a little more info. Was it jailbroken before? After limera1n finished, it should have simply rebooted, did limera1n have any errors? Are you on Windows or Mac? the reason i thought it was recovery mode is because when it was plugged up to my pc iTunes recognized the ipad, said it was in recovery mode, then wanted me to restore it. I tried to restore it but it didn't work, probably for the same reason it wouldn't complete the updates to newer firmware. iTunes calls recovery mode and DFU mode "recovery." Have you updated iTunes? it wasnt jailbroken before, i was in the process of jailbreaking it, and it wouldnt reboot yes, but it wont let me update the ipad Have you updated iTunes? Yes i have updated iTunes. Mac or Windows? Windows When you try to restore in iTunes, what error number does it give you? i'm pretty sure it kept saying my connection times out, but i know that it didnt Click this: gs.apple.com Do you get a TSS page, or an Apple 404 page? Double-check that you don't have an entry for gs.apple.com in your hosts file, and try using a different computer. i clicked on the link but it said page not found??? It says "Hmm, the page you’re looking for can’t be found," right? I was just verifying that your hosts file isn't pointing to cydia. Yes, that's exactly what it says. btw I'm sorry i am so clueless That's alright, this site wouldn't have much traffic if it weren't for the clueless. :P Your hosts file is fine, at least we know that much. Now open iTunes, click the Restore button, and if it gives you an error, tell me what it says, and the error number if there is one. There is no error number, but the notification says " There was a problem downloading the Software for the Ipad "Ipad" the network connectin timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." and it said that same thing when i tried to update my firmware There must be something wrong with your internet connection to Apple then, or their servers are having issues. If you want to restore to 4.3.3, I can walk you through it, using a different method. If you've never run TinyUmbrella to save your SHSH's, you can't restore to any version other than 4.3.3 anyway. can i estore it even thought the whole screen is black? and if not how can i get my ipad out of DFU mode? Yes, you can restore while in DFU. When it's done it should boot normally. ya its gonna be a while... sorry, my computer is kinda slow No prob, I'll be around for awhile, and if not, someone else will be. it failed over half way through because it aid the file could not be read Ah, well there's the reason it wouldn't work through iTunes. You obviously have network issues. Do you have another computer you can try, just to rule out the possibility that it's something on your PC?

Ah, well there's the reason it wouldn't work through iTunes. You obviously have network issues. Do you have another computer you can try, just to rule out the possibility that it's something on your PC? I just downloaded it myself, using the same link, no problems. Apple's servers are apparently ok, has to be on your end. It just finished downloading and the dialog box popped up, what do i do now? I thought it failed? Anyway, navigate to it and select it. Hopefully it's not corrupt. I am confused, it wants me to type in a file name? Ya the first try failed but the second try worked No, you don't type it in. Just go to where it downloaded and it should show up. If it doesn't, then your browser renamed it to a zip file (common problem). If it doesn't show, post back and I'll tell you how to fix it. wait... i don't know where it downloaded, as far as i know it just downloaded under downloads, then i opened it wait i found it, now what? Do i click open and then download redsn0w? Yes, well you click open and iTunes will restore the iPad, which will take a few minutes. Download redsn0w in the meantime but don't run it until iTunes is done, because it will immediately close iTunes when you run redsn0w. wait nevermind the one i almost opened was iPad1,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore, not iPad1,1_4.33_Restore_ispw. That won't work unless you have SHSH's for 4.2.1, and have your hosts file pointing at cydia, which you don't. ts not there (sigh) It is not there (sigh) Look in your browser's settings for the location it puts downloads in. how? i have the little pop up that shows my history and that i right click to open the file, butthat doesnt seem to do anything the download history that is What browser are you using? I use Mozilla Firefox, and i all that i see is a little pop up with my download history Firefox is the best, that's what I use. Go to Tools/Options and then the General tab. Download location is on that tab. i saw where they were saved to but tere were only two files that were very old, not the firmware file none of the tings have downloaded are in the downloads folder That's bizarre. Right-click this link, choose "Save link as" and put it on your desktop so it'll be easy to find. it said "the file could not be restored because the firmware is not compatible" when i tried to open it Then your iTunes is too old. What version is it? In iTunes, click Help/About iTunes from the top menu bar. 10.2.2.14 o 10.2.2.14 Whoah... OK, then either the ipsw is corrupt (what's the file size anyway) or you have an iPad 2. This is crazy, I have iTunes 10.2.2.12, and iTunes says that's the latest version. i have the ipad 1 and the file size is 593 MB woah dude thats weird 0.o That's the right size. It must be corrupt. maybe I'm not ment to have an up-to-date iPad, well can you tell me how to get my iPad out of DFU mode? Just checked, iTunes latest is 10.2.2.14, I guess it's just not offering it to me because it's a very minor update from 10.2.2.12. Have you tried iREB? Get it from ih8sn0w.com, open it, choose the "Recovery mode loop fixer" tab and click the big "Set auto-boot true" button. I know it's not in recovery loop, but this may work. i try to download it and all it says is that my download expired nevermind, third try i got it It does that, just try it again. I've had to try as many as 3-4 times. all it says is sating but nothing is happening second try got it working i opened i REb-r4.zip, but i don't see a way to select recovery mode loop fixer, i don't even see recovery mode loop fixer It's a tab at the top. which tab, add, extract to, test, view delete find, wizard info repair LOL, no no no. Extract the exe from the zip, or just double-click it. but i double clicked it and the same thing same up Have you never downloaded a zip file before? Open the zip. You will see iREB-r4.exe inside. Double-click that. By the way, where did you get limera1n? I think you might've downloaded a virus. Do you have the link from where you downloaded it? Well, my day starts in 5 hours so i must sleep you have been very kind and patient but we must finish this tomorrow. OK, good luck. I'd recommend plugging your iPad in to the wall charger, make sure it's got a topped-off battery when you start tomorrow. ok so i'm back and the ipad has been charging all night, but nothing is different, so how can i get it out of DFU mode? I'm in and out for a bit, I'll be back in a few. Did you run iREB? i couldn't run it as a exe? i think i just got it yep now i just have to go to itunes and run the 4.3 firmware, i'll post if something goes wrong i didnt do the firmware because i couldnt but i did select recovery mode loop fixer nothing has worked :( Did iREB get you out of DFU? no i dont think so If the screen stayed black, it didn't. ya its still in DFU mode.. |
