How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi all! I have an iPhone 4 with 4.3.2 jailbroken with Snowbreeze 2.6 I am trying to restore my device back to stock iOS and I continue to get error 14 in itunes. I have tried recovery mode, DFU, different iOS versions (I am constantly backing up my SHSH), through TinyUnmbrella, Cydia, and Apple servers, different USB cables, different USB ports, different computers entirely...all with the same result. Error 14. However, it will let me run iREB and load custom firmware built with Snowbreeze with no problem at all. Is there something that I need to do differently? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you stuck in recovery?

(04 May '11, 18:47) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

I just read that 14 is corrupt ipsw. Try re-downloading the stock firmware.

(04 May '11, 18:50) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

Thanks for answering...I had also read about the corrupt ipsw. (I have spent a couple of days so far googling this and tried everything that I have been able to find so far.) I deleted the ipsw from itunes/iphone software updates and let itunes download a new firmware from apple. But still the same problem. Afterwards, yes - it will leave me stuck in recovery mode. Tried using TinyUmbrella to exit recovery (just to try it) but it didn't do anything. The only way that I am able to restore the phone successfully is build custom firmware with Snowbreeze 2.6, run iREB, and then load the custom firmware in itunes. As for myself, that would be fine but I was going to try and sell the phone to get myself a white iphone and wanted it to be sold with stock firmware (give the buyer the option of whether to jb or not...)

Have you tried 4.3.3 just for giggles? As for the kicking out of recovery, try iREB (not the one inside sn0wbreeze, the stand-alone one at ih8sn0w.com). Choose the "Recovery mode loop fixer" tab and hit the "Set auto-boot true" button.

(04 May '11, 23:58) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

To be honest, no. I have not tried 4.3.3 yet. I will try that next and see if I have any luck. I will also try the stand-alone iREB. I will post my results soon! Thanks!!!

Hi guys. Its been 8 days now since im dealing with this. my iphone 4 is jailbreaked with greenpois0n firmware 4.1. my baseband is 04.10.01 so i was waiting patiently for an unlock until i get a gevey sim card, wich worked well here in my country. The gevey card solved my baseband problem so i dont need to be in 4.1 specially jailbreaked, so i decided to clean greenpois0n by restoring my phone to the actual version: 4.3.3, i went to itunes and clicked RESTORE, after some bar progress itunes told me "this device isn't eligible for the requested build" then my phone resets and went to recovery mode. until TODAY. Everytime i try to restore now it tells me unknown error 14. Here is a list of what i´ve done with no succes: DFU mode then shift click then selected stock ipsw 4.3.3 = error 14 Clean HOST file gs.apple.com = error 14 Change usb cable= error 14 Change usb port = error 14 Change computer (4 different computer, x2 mac x2 pcs) = error 14 Re download different ipsw = error 14 use Pwned tool to put phone in dfu and then create and restore a custom ipsw = error 14 Make recovery fix with tinyumbrella = iphone freezes with Green poison code lines, the resets after a lot of code scrolling and then back to recovery mode.

I dont need to preserb my baseband, i just want my iphone to be restored no matter to what version. First i though this can be hardware issue, but thats impossible cuz my phone was perfect till i restore that DAMM 4.3.3, now im stock in recovery mode forever: cable+arrow+itunes icon. Please any help will be greatly appreciated

Checking data integrity...All Files OK (figures! ha) It was worth a shot though!

Try going through the steps here (sounds like you have done some of them already) http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 one thing that got me, with a different error msg however, was forgetting to remove the change to the windows HOSTS file made by tinyumbrella to reroute apples servers to theirs. try making sure the hosts file is empty (or all commented) and reboot. its located somewhere like windowssystemdriversetc

I appreciate your help here...I thought that maybe I had also forgotten to uncheck the box in tinyumbrella but when I would ping gs.apple.com, I would get the correct ip. But even so, I even tried on a PC with a new XP install with a fresh itunes install. Nothing else installed. I even went so far as to try on another computer on a different internet network. (Grasping at straws! ugh) I have probably tried 40 times to this point...any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

If you are stucked in recovery mode after a clean restore, just run redsn0w without selecting cydia or any other options. Your device will boot up. :)

If all you're after is to get it back to official firmware in order to re-sell it, you might want to consider putting it into DFU mode, then taking it into your local Apple store and telling them it's broken (then playing dumb). Let them get it back to official 4.3.3 for you!

There are a lot of helpful people on this forum and I thank everyone for their suggestions! My "local" apple store is about 3 hours away. Unfortunately, it is starting to look like that is the only solution that I have. I downloaded ObjectFix to verify the checksum. I will post the results and let everyone know if it worked or not. Thanks again for everyone's help!

Thank you for everyone's help on this. I ended up getting lucky and the person that I sold the phone to wanted to jailbreak it afterall. So, I explained to him that for some reason I am only able to load custom firmware (not stock for some reason) and he was willing to buy it. It is a local sale so if he has problems with it in the future, he can always get in touch with me and I can help however I can. Now, I am off to get a white one... Thanks again! This forum is awesome!!

Click gs.apple.com, what do you get?

(15 May '11, 14:28) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

Hey just run redsn0w R16 without selecting any options and point to 4.3.3 ipsw. Your fone will boot normally then run redsn0w again but this time select install cydia. Then you fone will reboot jailbroken untethered. :)

Don't use a hub. Plug it into a USB port that's directly connected to the computer's motherboard. Unplug something else if you need to. This is crucial.

Try restoring without the hub, and with your hosts file fixed as per my answer in your other thread.
