I know when we all were on 4.3.1 te gestures worked but do u think theyd still work on 4.3.2.? Cause I have an iPhone 4 and don't know wether to use the cydia package or manually go on that website which gives you all the plists for the gesture.

Thanks

Yes when you update firmware it just updates, no files or anything like Multitouch gestures will be deleted in future IPSWs.

So basically I just have to update to 4.3.2 and my multi gestures will still be there? :D

No, you will probably have ti renable them, it still is a jailbreak tweak you know.

Actually I'm pretty sure they'll still be there if you update rather than restore.

Sn0wbreeze gives you the option to enable it during the custom firmware preparation, so if you follow this method you won't need to add any tweaks later to enable the feature. Run it in Expert mode to see the option checkbox.

I cannot see MT gestures in cydia anymore? Is it because I'm on 4.3.2?

(21 Apr '11, 00:47) ak47 ak47's gravatar image

Actually @spockers i have just updated my iPhone 4 from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2 and jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.6rc14 and now the multitasking gestures is not there anymore. I will try to enable it the manual way and let you know if any issues.

Install multi gestures from windows PC

  1. install openssh on jailbroken iPhone via Cydia
  2. install SBSettings on jailbroken iPhone via Cydia
  3. install WinSCP on PC http://winscp.net/eng/download.php#download2
  4. install putty on PC http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
  5. use SBSettings to show ip address of iphone
  6. putty into iphone as root/alpine and change passwd (make sure you record your root passwd)
  7. SFTP into iphone using WinSCP and go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ and edit N90AP_.plist
  8. search for "multitasking-gestures" and verify it is followed by a "true" tag, if it doesn't have a "true" tag add one.
  9. save N90AP.plist
  10. SFTP into iphone using WinSCP and go to var/mobile/Library/Preferences/ and edit com.apple.springboard.plist and add "SBUseSystemGestures" as a key tag followed by a "true" tag.
  11. save com.apple.springboard.plist
  12. respring the iphone
  13. on iphone go to General | Settings and tap Multitasking Gestures "ON"
  14. test using 4 finger upward gesture to reveal multitasking bar, pinch 4 fingers to go to home screen, swipe 4 fingers left or right to move from one running app to another running app.

Personally I can't get swipe 4 fingers left or right to move from one running app to another running app.

Also did I miss anything above?

You also need to edit var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist and add

<key>SBUseSystemGestures</key>

<true/>

@spockers when I edit com.apple.springboard.plist I get all kind of funny charactors in the edit screen of WinSCP. WinSCP edit worked find with editing N90AP_.plist . what am I doing wrong here?

@spockers

http://jaxov.com/2011/04/enable-multitasking-gestures-on-ios-4-3-1-manual-method/

This article says the follow.

Once done, respring or reboot your iDevice to start using gestures. Note that after enabling gestures, you won't find any option to enable or disable gestures through Settings app. The advantage of this manual method over MT Gestures Cydia app is that it do not require you to install Winterboard app.

Is installing the Winterboard app a bad thing and if some would I be better off backing out of this install and going the manuel way?

(21 Apr '11, 12:11) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

You need to use ifile or something that recognizes .plist files. It's not a text file so you can't edit directly from winscp.

thanks pepper will do.

(21 Apr '11, 14:41) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

@bobmutch, you need a plist editor, here's a good, free one. As for WinterBoard, I've tried it but it just seems to have too many issues, and I'm not into themes anyway.

best way is just to download sn0wbreeze 2.6 for you to upgrade to 4.3.2 jailbreak :P but it'll be "restore" way, so more time to reinstall all the apps u have before.

@VeganPolice I hardly think the best way to install a the mg feature on the iphone is to start with a new IPSW, if that is what you are trying to say.

(21 Apr '11, 12:12) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

Well sorry i forgot about the baseband preservation.. Living in malaysia and the Uk made me forget that the iphone is sim locked in certain countries..

But for me yeah the sn0wbreeze is the best mg way for me since it is activated like the xcode way unlike manual activation like editing the plist files.

(21 Apr '11, 12:18) VeganPolice VeganPolice's gravatar image

I still don't think doing a fresh install is the easiest way to implement mt.

To get the toggle in Settings, go to Applications/Preferences.app/General.plist and remove the 4 following lines.

<key>id</key>
<string>Mutltitasking_Gesture_Group</string>

<key>id</key>
<string>Mutltitasking_Gesture_Switch</string>

Just use activator... no need for 4 fingers or for anything else beside a good old fashioned JB :)
