I just checked with TU and there are no blobs.

Is it a 3g or 3gs?

Run TinyUmbrella, uncheck "Get SHSH from Cydia", click "Apply", restart TinyUmbrella and click "Save SHSH", up until yesterday i was still getting 4.3.1 from Apple.

Try this with both TU version 4.30.05 and 4.32.01

@spockers 1.59 would indicate it is a iphone4.

(19 Apr '11, 02:22) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

OK then you're limited to 4.3.1, there's no untethered jb for 4.3.2 yet.

(19 Apr '11, 02:25) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

and with the 4.3.1 will I be able to keep my 1.59 so i can unlock?

(19 Apr '11, 02:28) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

With Tu's TSS server, yes.

(19 Apr '11, 02:34) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

If you have SHSH for 4.3.1, then you can install it (with sn0wbreeze) otherwise wait for an update to support for 4.3.2 - should not take more than 1-2 days. Sn0wbreeze preserves your baseband. You can also install stock 4.3.2, preserve baseband with TinyUmbrella method and later jailbreak with redsn0w as soon as it comes out.

Currently SHSH server (Saurik) is broken. If you ever ran TinyUmbrella or did jailbreak, you probably do have SHSH. Check again, at least one version must be listed.

Sn0wbreeze 2.6 is out and supports 4.3.2. And yes, it seems like SHSH for 4.3.1 are still signed.

I can confirm to you, Apple still signs 4.3.1.

You need to use a TinyUmbrella version 4.30.x these can request SHSH for 4.3.1 starigh from Apple if you huncheck the check box "Request SHSH from Cydia". A restart of TinyUmbrella is required in addition to the "Apply" button for this change to take effect. Then clicking on Save SHSH will request only 4.3.1 from Apple server which is not affected by the Cydia (Saurik's) server condition.

Sn0wbreeze 2.6 is freshly released, you can go to 4.3.2, with or without shsh's, and preserve your baseband.

Just wanted to confirm that i was able to restore my iphone 4 to 4.3.2 while preserving my 1.59.00 baseband using TU and untether JB using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc14. Here is what I did.

  1. Ran Tiny Umbrella.
  2. Made sure I had the 4.3.2 SHSH Blobs downloaded.
  3. Started the TSS Server.
  4. Started Itunes.
  5. Shit+Restore the official 4.3.2 firmware.
  6. After it finished iTune gave me a 1013 error and my phone was stuck in recover mode (picture of itunes and usb cable on screen.)
  7. Ran FixRecovery43. This can be downloaded at Tiny Umbrella's website. (I ran into an error about msising zlib1.dll. I just googled for it and downloaded the file and placed it in the same folder as FixRecovery43)
  8. FixRecovery43 showed "Waiting for device to enter DFU mode."
  9. With the iPhone 4 sitting in recovery mode (usb pointing to iTunes), enter DFU by pressing and holding HOME + POWER until your screen goes black... then after a count of 2 (1.5-2 seconds) let go of POWER but keep holding HOME. If all goes well you will see nothing but a black screen. If your timing is even a LITTLE bit off, you will see the apple logo and your phone will boot back into recovery mode... If you were not successful entering DFU mode, just try again (You can try it as many times as it take to get it right.)
  10. FixRecovery43 did it's thing after a few minutes of verbose text and my phone was now out of recovery mode.
  11. My phone was now at stock 4.3.2 with 1.59.00 baseband.
  12. Just ran RedSn0w as normal and voila. Untethered 4.3.2 w/ 1.59.00 baseband.

I used sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 and build a custom IPSW from IPSW 4.3.1 I dl'ed and when into Pawned DFU with iREB and the sb custom IPSW with iTunes and I didn't have to activate the phone (I didn't have a Bell SIM for the phone).

skim32 above process gives you a stock 4.3.2 and doesn't upgrade your 1.59.00 bb. Which is the better way to do it? and why did skim32's process update the baseband?

(20 Apr '11, 02:28) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

Dev-Team says to "Don't ever try to restore or update to a stock IPSW or you'll lose the unlock!".

They also say "As always, ultrasn0w unlockers should stay away from redsn0w and only update their firmware thourgh a custom IPSW."

So this seems to say what skim32 did above is the wrong way to do things?

You can find these quotes under "more information" on the ultrasn0w 1.2.1 package page.

@bobmutch I'm sorry, you are correct. i will edit my comment. to preserve BB you need to have TinyUmbrella running, or use custom firmware file.

(20 Apr '11, 03:22) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

@knightz4u So if you start the TSS server in UW and you do a shift/control restore of a dl'ed stock IPSW iTunes will not update your baseband?

(20 Apr '11, 03:48) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

@bobmutch Correct, the reason is that (only for iPhone 4) there is a second authorization for the BB flashing, the first Authorization request for the firmware is being answered by TU SHSH responce, the second authorization for BB flashing always fails with TU TSS server as the BB SHSH Auth message is not stored and therefore not replied back, thus resulting an error 1013, this can be receovered using fixrecovery42 (for 4.2.1) or fixrecovery43 (for 4.3.x)

(20 Apr '11, 04:02) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

ok so that is the reason for the 1013 error.

so which is the better way to do an update to 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 which will preserve the phones current BB. custom IPSW with sb or pt or use TU with TSS started to change the hosts file so the BB requests don't go to and do do a shift/control Restore of a dl'ed stock IPSW?

(20 Apr '11, 04:13) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

All methods work, sn0wbreeze takes care of upgrading, jailbreaking and preserving BB in one shot, so it holds preference in my opinion.

(20 Apr '11, 04:50) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

@knightz4u The nice things with sb is there is a setting that will activated the phone without needing a SIM. as far as I can see when I have sb'ed a custom ipsw to a phone before and I didn't check the activation I have had to have the original carrier sim and connect to itunes which has a internet connection. when I sb'ed my ip4/1.59 to 4.3.1 using a custom ipsw with activation check it activated the phone at the same time. after then I ultrasn0wed it and this morning I will go and get my SIM clipped to a micro-SIM. then I will be an 31337 ul ip4 user.

(20 Apr '11, 05:56) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

Just note that hacktivation from sn0wbreeze will not give you full Notification functionality, to fix this use SAM to de-activate, revert lockdownd then simulate an official SIM to activate properly. More details are in the FAQ here

(20 Apr '11, 06:47) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

ok, thanks a lot for the SAM tips. I plan to go to get my Rogers SIM clipped this morning and then I will run SAM.

(20 Apr '11, 06:59) bobmutch bobmutch's gravatar image

I was very careful cutting the first SIM, the second one i cut with scissors by just comparing to the already cut one, didn't even use a ruler, just made it fit into the microSIM tray =)

(20 Apr '11, 07:11) knightz4u knightz4u's gravatar image

I ordered a sim cutter from hong kong with some trays to go from mirco-sim to sim but I can't wait. so I am going to meet this iphone repair person and get a micro-sim to SIM tray and get him to clip my SIM down with this sim clipper. 45min drive but I would like to get my gb ul'ed ip4 working and feel 31337.
