What firmware file did you download?

Also "4.3.1 or whatever" isn't gonna cut it. Jailbreaking is something you have to focus on, and knowing what firmware you have is crucial.

Copy/paste the name of the firmware file here, or a screenshot of the folder it's in.

ok that's the right one, but, most importantly, what's the extension? You didn't say, so I'm assuming it's .zip and you can't see it. You must disable "hide extensions for known file types" so you can see if it's a zip file. Redsn0w only looks at what's after the dot, i.e. .ipsw, it won't even see a .zip file.

i went through the comment at least 10 times and its stilll different. im runnin windows 7. can you gimme directions just for this?

I'm running Windows 7 too, I wrote those instructions while going through the menus on my own system. Do you have the "Tools" menu item at the top of the window?

Nevermind, I know what it is... you're at the default Windows settings, which I like to call "Fisher-Price mode." Click "Organize" at the top of any hard drive or folder window, Layout, Menu bar. Then you can see "Tools" and proceed as I wrote earlier... gotta add that to the FAQ, thanks for the reminder. I really hate Windows' default settings!

Oh, you have Tools? I don't know what the problem is then. If you want to install TeamViewer and let me remote you, I can fix it in about 30 seconds. Without seeing it for myself, I don't know what else to tell you. If you want me to remote it, email the details, don't post them here for obvious reasons. spockers at gmail dot com.
