How to fix some mysterious problems.

Using iMessage on an iPhone 5, and in iOS 7, if I deleted an individual text, then the timestamp of the conversation would be reduced to the last time stamp shown. Now in iOS 8 and iOS 9, if I delete a text message, even though the message is no longer in the conversation, the 'message list' (where all my texts to various contacts are listed) still has the most recent time beside that contact - even though that message no longer exists. What this does is reorder the list according to timestamp, and sometimes I don't want some messages to appear as more recent. Any fix for this?

(quick example: Joe messages me at 10am. He messages again at 4pm. I delete his message from 4, so it's no longer in the conversation - but when I go to my main list, he is at the top, the message showing is the last one of the conversation (10am) but the timestamp says 4pm (time of his most recent message, even though I erased)
