How to fix some mysterious problems.

Okay so I really need help. I'm on the 5th gen. iPod Touch with 32gb and 512mb of RAM. Basically I Can't even break past 20mb of free ram and EVERYTHING I try and do on my device is stupid slow. I ran iCleaner pro. Downloaded tons of memory cleaner apps and while they show they are doing something.. If I go back into the app immediately after closing it my memory usage goes right back up again. It's like I'm fighting to keep my ram low. I want my iPod to at least be fast enough to do simple tasks without lag (like following and liking on Instagram) any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

What iOS version and what repos and tweaks?

(16 Aug '15, 10:54) Tilerone Tilerone's gravatar image

If you're on iOS 8: iOS 8 manages RAM differently than older versions, so it may seem that you have 20 MB or less free, but you actually have more / it's actually enough for processes.

What's the best advice for IOS 8 as I'm constantly using ram boosters every 10 minutes, It all started after I installed sbs settings and full system crash on my first, and only tap.

(16 Aug '15, 17:17) Spin31 Spin31's gravatar image

@Spin31 SBSettings is not iOS 8 compatible, uninstall it. Also if you have further questions please start your own thread.

I'm terribly sorry, I assumed there wasn't a need for a whole new thread, clearly I was wrong, the package, still advertised as for iOS 8, twice on it, so please anyone reading note this warning. Sorry if that should have gone in a new thread?

(16 Aug '15, 20:30) Spin31 Spin31's gravatar image

it does NOT advertise for ios 8. The green box is just saying 8.4 jailbreak is stable. You need to scroll down and read the package description

(16 Aug '15, 21:34) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

Excuse me, I'd appreciate it if you had a little more mannors with your incorrect statements, I've clearly seen the green box everywhere, you must have not noticed but we we discussesing 8.0. So the green boxes, that we all see is irrelivantivant. I certainly didnt mention a green box noting a system I don't have, I'm always more than happy to confirm any questions someone may have so please don't jump to outrageous conclusions again, considering the 1000,s of available apps, and the amount we have all downloaded incorrectly due to misrepresentation, it's importan to not add further confusion and remain civil at least! Regards

(16 Aug '15, 22:52) Spin31 Spin31's gravatar image

Well, if the warning box states " not yet iOS 7 compatible ", then I would hazard a guess that sbs settings is also NOT compatible with iOS 8 also........

(16 Aug '15, 23:56) xamas xamas's gravatar image

When the compatibility within the description States now compatible for IOS8, Twice! then that's what an iOS 8 user chooses. Nothing more we can do but report the software I guess.

(17 Aug '15, 00:05) Spin31 Spin31's gravatar image

it does NOT say anything about ios 8 in the description. I was not rude before, but i guess you don't read? it states, in the warning NOT YET IOS 8 COMPATIBLE. It doesn't get anymore clear than that.

That green box you like to say makes it advertised as ios 8 compatible will soon change to a red box that says 8.4.1 no jailbreak.

P.S. Spell check is your friend

(17 Aug '15, 01:03) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

I've said it twice, the version I picked does and still does state compatible with iOS 8. Clearly it isn't but that doesn't change the fact. Again, out of the the thousands of available apps you have no idea what i downloaded. so making false assumptions and continuing with childish rudeness rudeness doesn't help. Thankfully I'm not dyslexic but perhaps think about such possibilities before you seriously upset someone.

Okay so I did at one point download SBsettings but uninstalled it due to it looking extremely outdated. Maybe that's what messed me up? Idk but I uninstalled Cydia Substrate and all my tweaks ect and I'm still only pushing 46mb free out of 512 and its rediculous. Like even typing right now is lagging. Gonna try a fresh reboot. But if that doesn't work what could it be? I've tried a restore 5 times before and it seems fine until I jailbreak and install substrate safemode

(17 Aug '15, 16:17) Joeyfbaby3 Joeyfbaby3's gravatar image

After deleting all cydia tweaks & 2 reboots still only pushing 68mb free. This sucks ass. Could it be a app draining my RAM?

(17 Aug '15, 16:21) Joeyfbaby3 Joeyfbaby3's gravatar image

You don't need to free up ram ..iOS can deal with it unless 1) your using themes .....2) you've damaged file system using oiracy..... Restore start again and see. Don't use piracy if your are .... Don't use themes .

Ps. @Spin31 your an idiot and obviously have no grasp of the English language as nowhere does sbsetting state it s compatible with iOS 8. It hasn't been compatible fully since iOS 6

(17 Aug '15, 16:38) Tilerone Tilerone's gravatar image

@Spin31 what version on what repo then? bigboss has 6.0.5-1, and @Joeyfbaby3 possibly, you havent listed what tweaks you have (or had if you just removed them all)

(17 Aug '15, 16:39) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

I draw the line at name calling, whose statements are get again wrong, this is supposed to be a help section, not a school playground.

(17 Aug '15, 16:51) Spin31 Spin31's gravatar image

@Spin31 yet you wont reveal where you see this mysterious sbsettings that says it works on ios 8. Future comments that dont have the requested info from you will be moderated (aka removed)

(17 Aug '15, 16:54) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

Yeah I always pay for everything, no piracy. I'm afraid to restore again because the 8.4.1 just dropped and patched the jailbreak. For the record I was under the impression that the green box was saying that the tweak(s) are iOS 8.4 compatible

(17 Aug '15, 16:59) Joeyfbaby3 Joeyfbaby3's gravatar image

Yeah read the green box again it says no such thing .... You can still restore to 8.4 as still signed ....don't know for how long ...dl your ipsw from and then connect device to iTunes press shift+ restore and select the file you downloaded and it'll Redfore to 8.4 not 8.4.1 as it's still signed by Apple then jailbreak with latest taig

(17 Aug '15, 17:04) Tilerone Tilerone's gravatar image

Nah that green box is more a warning to not update (ie 8.4.1), but yep as @tilerone said, 8.4 is still currently signed and can be shift restored.

(17 Aug '15, 17:05) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

@spin31 it must be the playground as you can't read.

(17 Aug '15, 17:06) Tilerone Tilerone's gravatar image

What is ipsw bro? And thank you all for the support seriously I'm banging my head

(17 Aug '15, 17:21) Joeyfbaby3 Joeyfbaby3's gravatar image

ipsw is just the file extension for an iphone firmware file, like how wondows programs are somename.exe and music is somename.mp3 you can see signing status and download the ipsw for your phone

(17 Aug '15, 17:26) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

Okay so the latest "ipsw" is 8.4 so download it then do what Tilerone said? Should I buy Disk Pie too just to see if it can help me identify the problem?

(17 Aug '15, 17:29) Joeyfbaby3 Joeyfbaby3's gravatar image

latest is 8.4.1, you dont want that one, you do want 8.4 and to use it in itunes, after you tell itunes make a backup, hold the shift key and click restore, and then point ot the 8.4 ipsw you download :)

(17 Aug '15, 17:33) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

IPSW = (I)(P)hone(S)oft(W)are :D Get 8.4 here.
