How to fix some mysterious problems.

I am trying to jb my 4S with IOS 8.4. I was on 8.1.2, updated to 8.4.1 and the downgraded to 8.4. I have itunes 12.0.1 and Taig 2.4.3 and I am stuck at 20%. The jb starts, reaches 20% and then the device just restarts at a couple of times. At the end I get error 1101. Is itunes supposed to start and be running at the same time. Help pls.

No, iTunes shouldn't be running, and you should update it. I don't know how you even got to 8.4/8.4.1 using that iTunes, it's too old. If you're on 64-bit Windows, use this iTunes. Make sure you don't have backup encryption enabled in iTunes, and disable Find my iPhone and lockscreen passcode on the device.

I had the latest iTunes, updated to 8.4.1 and then downgraded to 8.4. When I ran into problems jailbreaking I had read that I might have to downgrade iTunes to 12.1.0 which I did. I have now upgraded iTunes again, I don't have backup encryption enabled in iTunes, and have disabled Find my iPhone and lockscreen passcode on the device. Still does not work.

dont restore your backup just do jailbreak on clean new ios version. if done other option to do - using apple vert-ivied usb cable - removing passwords for lock screen - remove keychain - use itune version and remove itune library from music folder before installation or change its name - install iTuneDriver64_0205

OK, I done it now. It might have been that I tried to jb a clean install like iphoniat suggested, I have tried so many variations that I have forgotten what worked in the end. I did change computer at the end so it might have been that as well.
