Still got issues?, I can't see that downgrading it will make any difference unless you find/use the earlier version of Ultrasn0w. You must be doing something incorrect to be stuck where you are, have you been on the DevTeam blog to search through the comments for people in the same position?

Is the sim you use for service a cut down or proper micro sim?

its a proper micro-sim, I cant figure out why it wont work. The phone acts fine with a sim from original carrier not THE original sim just from same carrier, but when i put in the meteor sim i get full bar signal and meteor carrier displayed. But it wont let me dial!

....and that meteor sim is live/registered?, if Ultrasn0w isn't installed what do you get when you put the meteor sim in?......there are comments starting to come up on the DEvTeam blog now, about 'no service' 'sim pin' prob, MMS, maybe there's an issue with Ultrasn0w

I've just received a call on the problem phone, so everything had to work P.S. the phones owner has just told me there was an issue with te phone not being able to make calls, prior to JB. He has also told me when he had the first JB he had it done 6-8 mths ago, it was on emergency no's he took it to a shop to jb had to take it back and got it fixed.

So it looks as though you've done everything correct and that there is an issue with the phone itself that was there before, maybe time for you to walk away from this one. If it doesn't work after uninstall/reboot/install (ignore respring option)/reboot/maybe another reboot then something isn't right. He will have to restore it to stock 4.3.1 if he wants to return it to Apple, that will update the baseband as well.

There are more posts popping up on Dev blog regarding new ultrasn0w, maybe there's something not quite right with it, you could always try previous version of ultrasn0w if you can find the .deb for it and then run the fixer that's available on some Cydia repo, see how that goes.

You can basically preserve the baseband on iPhone 4 if you have latest TinyUmbrella TSS Server running during the Restore to the selected version. If you end up with error 1015, then use Tinyumbrella "Exit Recover" button, if you get error 1013 then use the "Fix Recovery" button.

Preserving baseband for other iPhone models (if anybody is reading this other than the OP), preserving baseband is only done by means of a custom firmware created with sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool, this method also works for iPhone 4 but is longer than the TinyUmbrella method.

With regards to your current issue, being stuck at emergency call screen looks more like an iPhone in need for activation, did you only get this after installing Ultrasn0w?! i.e you could access the iPhone after the jailbreak and after Ultrasn0w you're stuck at the emergency call screen?

Thanx for the additional info @knightz4u, I could access the phone via an original carrier sim after JB no probs and make calls via this said sim. But after running Ultrasnow inserting the meteor (other) sim, this is when i get emergency calls. Asi said ireceived a call on the meteor sim I am getting carrier name and full signal just cant get past emergency. This has been a troublesome phone since my mate got it.When he initially had it JB'd on 4.1 the unlock gave same issue (ive only been informed of this after my attempts) But guy in the shop fixed it dont know how though.

Now that you have Ulterasn0w installed, if you put the original carrier SIM card, would it function normally or you will still be stuck at emergency call (actually can you post a screen shot)?

Can you also confirm the modem firmware version by going to Settings->General->About

@Knightz4u I dont have the original carrier sim at the moment, its in the mrs. iphone4 when she gets home i will post a screen shot of the phone with both sims in but seperate of course, I can confirm the firmware now though. Its on 4.3.1 and the baseband is 01.59.00, I used ultrasnow on a 3gs and unlock"ed perfectly, but on the iphone 4 it ran differently didnt get prompt "lost cellular data network" mid way through ultrasnow.Yet if it failed would it not just say invalid sim, yet Itunes says sim not supported. Its just weird I hate not getting things finished.

You have 2 symptoms of an iPhone in need for activation, the emrgency call screen and iTunes telling you your SIM is not supported, however it is strange that this goes away when you pop in an official SIM, and comes back when you reinsert the unofficial SIM, my advice would be to install SAM from the repo (add the repo fist in Cydia), once SAM is installed, you can use it to copy the ICCID and IMSI of the official SIM card and use them for life regardless what SIM car you insert, the ICCID and IMSI numbers will only be used to validate you have an official SIM when you don't really.

Let me know if you have issues after this, also make sure you have the latest Ultrasn0w, i think there was a 1.2.1 version specifically for iOS 4.3.1 compatibility with BB 1.59

(17 Apr '11, 16:52) Bornsrvr Bornsrvr's gravatar image

re-booted back to accepting original carrier sim what do i do with sam utility how do i use it?

(17 Apr '11, 16:58) Bornsrvr Bornsrvr's gravatar image

@knightz4u the tutorial for sam says to use redsnow to JB, is this necessary. I JB'd the phone using Snowbreeze to preserve baseband,. In order to use SAM sould i restore again using TU to preserve baseband and then run redsnow to utilise Sam? Or can i use it in my present state?

(17 Apr '11, 17:30) Bornsrvr Bornsrvr's gravatar image

OK @knightz4u I have just taken out original sim and put the other sim in and this time it came on looking for pin unlock code and stayed on no connect to itunes. What great news. I am really tired atm, so I wont try recap exactly what i did but i will post back tmrw hust to let u know what happened and for anyone else in similar state. Lets hope its not a fluke and thank u so so much for sticking at this and coming with a different perspective. Thats what makes this site great, it has a lot of very talented people.Respect to u all.

Sorry i missed your messages, anyways using SAM do the following:

  1. In SAM "utilities" menu, select "De-Activate iPhone".
  2. In SAM "utilities" menu, select "Revert Lockdownd to Stock" (this appears after step 1).
  3. Put the good SIM card in.
  4. in SAM "More Information" menu, select "Spoof Real SIM to SAM".

Now remove the SIM card, insert your own SIM card, connect to iTunes to get activation. happens automatically.

With regards to the JB having to be with redsn0w, where did you see this? AFAIK hactivation by both sn0wbreeze or redsn0w behave similarly with SAM.

Thanks for that @knightz4u, the tutorial i was looking at was on, maybe I was getting my wires crossed. I didn't need to re-jB anyhow, i followed what you said and voila the phones now working and returned to my buddy, not sad to see the back of it though. Yet it was good for the experience, and thanks again for all your help.

@Bornsrvr happy i could be of help to you. Redmondpie usually has good news, i even follow the site on twitter. Now that your activation is good, you can create a backup from within SAM, go to SAM's utilities menu and select Backup Activation (you need to have your iPhone connected to internet over WiFi or cellular data), this will create a backup of the activation on bingner's server, in case you ever had to restore or rejailbreak then you can restore the activation and it will pull the good information from the server.
