You can use Cydia Impactor if you need to un-jailbreak an 8.1-8.4 device without restoring.

How to fix some mysterious problems.

Attempting to restore my iPhone 4 which was jailbroken on iOS 4.1 but it seems like it's getting stuck in an endless loop of resetting. Any help please?

By resetting do u mean rebooting?

Yea, it brings up the apple logo then just reboots again.

It has the connect to iTunes logo on the screen, but when I connect it, it starts to go through the reboot cycle again.

Try puting. Your device into DFU mode then restoring

Putting into DFU mode allows iTunes to recognize it, but when I click "restore" it goes into the reboot loop again and it can't restore the phone.

Windows User –

Quit itunes

Go to C:WindowsSystem32driversetc

Search for 'hosts' file?

Open 'hosts' with Notepad and DELETE the following line from the end of the text. or something similar to this.

Save and close the 'hosts'?

Mac OS X User -

• Open Finder

• Click on 'Go' from 'Menu Bar'

• Select 'Go to Folder'

• Type '/etc'

• Click 'Go'

• Open 'hosts' with TextEdit and delete the following line from the end of the text.

• 'Save As' it on desktop with same name and make sure to uncheck the box saying 'If no extension is provided, use .txt'

• Drag the 'hosts' file from desktop to 'etc' folder and replace it.

• 'Authenticate' it by entering your computer password.


Download iOS 4.2.1 firmware file for iPhone 4

Save or Move it on desktop

• Open iTunes?.

• Windows Users press ‘Shift’ Key / Mac OS X Users press ‘Option’ key and hit ‘Restore’

• Select the downloaded iOS 4.2.1 firmware file
