How to fix some mysterious problems.

A friend of mine had brought in a 3gs which was inoperative with just a Cydia icon ! Tried restoring it but failed many a times with couple of errors. Any valuable suggestion to have it restored and working is really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Perform a DFU restore by 1. Connecting the phone to a computer with iTunes 2. THEN turning off the phone 3. Holding power for 3 seconds 4. While still holding power, hold home for another 10 seconds 5. Releasing power and holding home till iTunes recognizes the device as "recovery mode" 6. Then hitting restore.

Of course I've done that. Like i said earlier, it failed with couple of errors (16xx, 11...). I've tried with DFU mode, used iReb, sn0wbreeze, even TSS server with TinyUmbrella. All the methods have failed!

Then you had better list the exact errors you encounter. That might help further.
