How to fix some mysterious problems.

This may be the first time I jailbreak a device, so I'm just wondering about any negative repercussions later on down the road, even after the jailbreak is patched. I also love using my iPod Touch 5G, and I don't want my experience using it to suffer as a result of jailbreaking it, either when it's jailbroken or after it's patched. Should I really go through with jailbreaking my iPod? Or are there major risks that I won't want to take, since they'd put my iPod in jeopardy?

Worst-case scenario: You'll enjoy your device much more than before.

Seriously though, you can't harm it by jailbreaking; you can always restore to stock iOS and it'll be like it never happened.

Jailbreaking alone won't effect your iPod at all. It simply adds a second 'app store', Cydia.

What you add from Cydia can have negative consequences (lag, crashing apps, etc) if you're not careful. Read everything before adding stuff.

The absolute worst case is your iPod gets stuck in a 'boot loop' where it just keeps restarting repeatedly. It can always be fixed by an iTunes restore.

Bottom line, be careful what you install and make frequent iTunes back ups just in case.

'm just wondering about any negative repercussions later on down the road, even after the jailbreak is patched - When Apple releases new update, you can stay for jailbroken version for as long as you want. When / if jailbreak released for new version, you more then welkom to update your device in iTunes, and jailbreak again. Over the air updates are disabled by jailbreak. Also, DO NOT press "reset all content and settings" on jailbroken device as it will put you in a boot loop. Remember, you CAN ALWAYS restore your device in iTunes.
