How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have a 3GS hacktivated and unlocked, new bootrom, with iPad baseband running 4.1.

I tried updating to 4.3.1 using a custom firmware with the iPad baseband through Sn0wbreeze but iTunes always errors out during the recovery near the end and the phone gets stuck in recovery loop mode.

I'm able to restore thanks to this to get up to 4.2.1 which leaves me at the emergency call screen, is it possible to generate a custom 4.3.1 firmware which could do the same so I could hacktivate and jailbreak using redsn0w ?

Thanks.

Dear @bawwers that custom firmware was created with sn0wbreeze with only baseband preservation, you can run sn0wbreeze (now at 2.5.1) to create a new hactivated jailbroken custom firmware at 4.3.1, just run it in expert mode and make sure you select the "hactivate" iphone and the resulting firmware should serve you what you want.

Only when you want to flash the custom firmware to your iPhone, you should prepare your phone into Pwned DFU mode which is the last part of sn0wbreeze after the custom firmware creation or if you missed it you can run iReb rc4 (found at ih8sn0w.com ) to prepare your device in Pwned DFU mode, after this you can hold the SHIFT key and click the RESTORE button in iTunes to select that custom firmware. iTunes will then finish the job for you.

If you get any error, please do let us know before you try something else.

Thanks for the reply, I was using the DFU mode to flash & I was using the latest version of Snowbreeze using expert mode along with activate and install iPad baseband.

Was that my mistake selecting the install iPad baseband option ?

I should just generate a custom firmware from the original 3.4.1 IPSW using only the activate option in Sn0wbreeze and that should do it.

It has to be pwned DFU mode and not the normal DFU. Also don't choose the install ipad baseband option if you already have it. If it still errors try using just the baseband preservation mode, then jailbreak with redsnow0.9.6 RC14.
