I bought an iphone 3gs with the old bootrom from my daughter when she got her new iPhone4. She upgraded to 4.3 before I got it from her. I need to jailbreak so that I can use mms as I am using a different carrier's sim in it that makes this necessary. I don't mind using a tethered jailbreak as i have never had any jailbreak before. I need some advise, please. Should I leave it at 4.3 and try to find something to jailbreak it or upgrade to 4.3.1 and use the Snowbreeze beta jailbreak or should I wait a while longer to see if Greenpoison is going to come out for 4.3 or 4.3.1? |

What's being tested....source? OP - is it factory unlocked then?, ever been JB before? |

My daughter jailbroke it right after she first got it brand new. Then she updated and lost the JB. Don't know about unlocked. The sim card uses att towers, but is not att. All is working on phone, talk, text, 3g internet, except for mms. I have to jailbreak to be able to send and receive multimedia texts. |

Ok, you're using that network, whose name escapes me now, that piggybacks the at&t network. Would definitely download TinyUmbrella and connect your 3Gs, select it, and hit 'save shsh' and watch the log to see what it gets, there may be shsh's already saved if 'make my life easier' option was selected on the first running of Cydia when your daughter got it and jailbroke it. okay I will give that a try and let you know what happens. and yes, I use that network. Thanks OMG, you are a genius!! 4.2.1 is there. So can you point me to directions on how to downgrade? I'm so happy. |

Start the TSS server in TinyUmbrella, check the log to make sure it's running ok (green tick I think), leave it running and connect your iphone to itunes then hold the shift key (PC) alt key (Mac) while clicking on the restore button, from the pop up window navigate to and select a 4.2.1 firmware file for the 3Gs, if you haven't got one you can download one from here, just scroll down and click on the appropriate blue 4.2.1 ipsw link, the restore should begin. If itunes gives you an error try hitting the 'exit recovery' button in TinyUmbrella (which should be open with TSS server still running) Your daughter was the genius here, for selecting 'make my life easier' even though she may not have known what it was about, could easily of declined the option and you would have had no shsh's on file with Cydia. first attempt I got an error message that said the iphone couldn't be restored. Do I need to put the phone in DFU mode? well, I messed it up enough that I had to restore and update cause it wouldn't do anything. So now I have 4.3.1, crap. I have rooted my NookColor and then unrooted it and rooted it again. Then I flashed it to honeycomb android and completely did away with Nook system. I can follow directions, I should be able to do this. Just use sn0wbreeze, you'll be untethered because the old bootrom has an untethered exploit. |

** Old bootrom 3G(S) IS UNTETHERED. Use sn0wbreeze for a custom firmware, it has ultrasn0w for the unlock. |
