A lot of people have been asking how to restore here's my guide :

First back up your phone, you can follow these steps to do that

iTunes Method :

  1. Connect your phone to iTunes
  2. Click on your iDevice
  3. Click backup and your done!

iCloud Method :

  1. Click on settings
  2. Go to iCloud and Back up
  3. Hit backup, your done!

Put your phone in DFU mode by following these steps :

  1. Plug your phone into your laptop
  2. Power off your phone
  3. Press the home and power TOGETHER for 10 seconds
  4. Release the power button but KEEP HOLDING THE HOME for another 15 secs

iTunes should now see your device in DFU mode, if not repeat the steps again. Now you need to get the firmware for your device. Below are some reliable sources :

  1. icj.me They've been doing firmware for ages!
  2. iDownloadblog Very good source, comes directly form apples servers.
  3. TheiPhoneWIKI Officially recommended wiki that downloads the files directly from apples servers!
  4. Felixbruns.de Most reliable one I've used!
  5. IPSWDownloader Easy step-by-step wizard to get the right IPSW for you
  6. ALT METHOD

Just hit restore and it'll work! No need for the custom firmware..

Right your nearly there, open up iTunes and click on your device. Click Shift+Restore (Windows) or Apple+Restore (Mac) and browse to the iPSW file! It should start restoring now!

    Tips :

    • For any iTunes restore errors go here
    • If iTunes still doesn't recognise your device then check your USB ports and try a new cable. ;)

I hope I helped! I'll mark this as community wiki so you can correct my answer! Please keep the code in html5 thx

Erm why not just let itunes download the firmware and retore .....don't see point in downloading and searching for Ipsw yourself with shift restore. If your talking custom firmware .....think it'd be useful to add a few major steps that are missing.

True but sometimes it's better to do it that way

Might as well let itunes do all the work..... No point downloading Ipsw yourself it serves no purpose and prevent users downloading wrong Ipsw.

Just thinking your making a very simple process more complicated.

I've added it now ;)
