How to fix some mysterious problems.

I've just upgraded my iPhone4 from 4.1 to 4.3 with sn0wbreeze and am attempting to restore contacts and such from from a backup using pkgbackup but, the app won't even open. I booted into safe mode and still had the same issue.

Is it not 4.3 compatible yet, and if I'm going to have issues with such a crucial app should I just downgrade to 4.2.1 and not bother with 4.3 for the time being?

I don't have it, but my guess is it's not ready for 4.3 yet. I'm on 4.3 and I can confirm that "aptbackup" works.

What did you go to 4.3 for anyway? Let every one else bleed on the cutting edge and upgrade in a few months after every one has worked out the bugs for you.

I figured I may as well, I'd been sitting on 4.1 for so long not wanting to upgrade for fear of losing everything. But, I borked my device yesterday with restore being the only option so I figured why not update to 4.3? I've got all my SHSH Blobs so I can downgrade to almost any build since 4.0.1

when you went to 4.3 did your baseband upgrade also? This can make it unlockable. I would go back to 4.1 and stay off the cutting edge unless you have nothing better to do.

No, I preserved my 01.59.00 Baseband. You'd recommend going back to 4.1 instead of 4.2.1?

If you have 4.1.2 Blobs go to that. I am 4.1.2 on my phone.

pkgbackup is not yet working under 4.3. Downgraded to 4.2.1, installed, ran and restored backup without issue.

@zzyyfff - You're taking the p**s aren't you, why didn't you just contact the Pkgbackup Dev, you paid for the Devs' support when you purchased it.

because the dev isn't responding or fixing it fast enough. seeing as it's solved, crowd-sourcing seems to be more efficient, yes? the goal is getting up and running again as efficiently as possible, even if the dev isn't on top of their game. i am glad and proud that we (the jb community) are able to fix things without always having to have our hands held by the devs! :)

You cannot post/promote that information here, the goal of this site is no piracy talk/links etc , we are not stupid. So you purchased pkgbackup and the Dev ignores you?

i am very sorry. i was unaware that discussion of things even tangentially related to piracy were censored on this site. i meant no offense whatsoever! i was just hoping to point out that a tool which some people could use for piracy, AppSync, could actually be used for a completely legitimate purpose, making PKGBackup work again (reminds me a tiny bit of the bitttorrent debate). in fact, i took pains to condem piracy because i do think that it's wrong. at least one other user is happy with the solution:

yes, the dev has not helped anyone on this issue. no fixes, no workarounds, nothing. perhaps it will take the dev some time to fix this problem? in the meantime, i would rather not have my main means of communication and work (my phone and pocket-sized computer) be decimated by the dev's sluggishness.

Condemning it while promoting it with links, inadvertently or not, is a bit of a contradiction.

I'm sorry, I did not feel that I was promoting it by identifying its location. I suppose I could have said that installing AppSync will fix the issue and then leave it to the user to use google to figure out the rest. I believe that this is an equivalent, albeit marginally more circuitous, director to the same location. Perhaps even mentioning that such a tool exists could lead someone toward piracy even if piracy is not mentioned. As a teacher, mentor, parent, and citizen, my personal style is to confront issue directly and not avoid any information or subject. Again, sorry to offend anyone.

Hey, not only did you identify/advise to add the source, but you even listed what you installed from that repo which was a bit more than the fix you promote, I'm not bothered what you or anyone else do on your idevice, but have some respect for this site, it's clearly written what to and what not to discuss....also the dev looks to be very active on twitter.
