How to fix some mysterious problems.

Cydia sources and packages missing. I was using my ipod and i was installing themes and i went back to cydia to find something and i went to the search and nothing came up so i figured it didn't exist. Then i went to manage and then to sources and they were all gone. After that i went to changes and hit refresh and nothing happened. I used green poison rc6 tto jailbreak my ipodtouch 4g with 4.2.1 firmware. I would like some help on how to get my sources back...

(P.S) I got tired off the updates that came up every time i load up cydia and started to hit cancel. About an hour after that it stopped working.

When you do get it running, stop installing cracked apps and it will work better.

Reinstalling Cydia usually works. This comes up so often that I wrote out details on three methods to reinstall Cydia. The easiest is the iFile method if you have that.

Here are the three methods:

Method 1: With iFile: Download the current Cydia .deb file to your computer:

Open iFile on your iPod. Tap the WiFi icon on the bottom bar. It should display some text with an address at the end, something like (don't use that, use whatever yours says). Enter that address in your computer browser. You should get a root directory of your ipod showing on your browser, with an upload box. Navigate to /var/stash and upload the cydia .deb file to your iPod. Then tap Done on iFile on your iPod. Navigate on your iPod to /var/stash and tap the cydia .deb file you just put there. In the menu which will appear select Installer. It should now re-install Cydia. Then you will probably need to respring or reboot.

Method 2: via SSH: (This requires OpenSSH on your phone) Download the current Cydia .deb file to your computer:

Use an SSH client on your computer (like WinSCP, for Windows, or Cyberduck(?) for Mac) to put the Cydia .deb file in /var/stash on your iPod. You will general need to log in as root@{ip address of your ipod} using the iPod password (alpine, or whatever you have changed it to). After putting the .deb file in /var/stash, use the terminal of the SSH client (such as the WinSCP terminal) or of your computer (if Mac), to send these commands to your iPod:

su     {not necessary with WinSCP since you already have root}
alpine      (or your changed password)  {not necessary with WinSCP}
cd /var/stash
dpkg -i cydia_1.0.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb

Then respring or reboot.

Method 3: using redsn0w "install Cydia" option: (This method requires no special software on the iDevice, for example if someone hasn't installed iFile or OpenSSH, or has just jailbroken and found they couldn't run Cydia.) See detailed instructions here:

Did it give any error messages when it was installing? Sometimes it is necessary to uninstall and reinstall; I will look for the instructions for that. Try method 3; that doesn't involve re-jailbreaking, it just installs cydia; it might do a more thorough job.

i tried method 3 and it didn't work either should i just go forward with restoring my ipod... and no error messages... and i did reinstall and unistall... And when i did method 3 it said it was tethered...

Method 3 works. It is not tethered. You're not jailbreaking with redsn0w, you're only installing Cydia. As the instructions say, you check one box only: "Install cydia."

yeah that is what i did and nothing worked on my ipod... and then on my pc it said note: even though this is a jb something something it is tethered and needs to be booted something like that

Although you may not need it now, just for completeness I'm going to post this additional method:

Method 4: Uninstall and reinstall Cydia:

This is adapted from

On your computer, download the following .deb files

For convenience, shorten the .deb file names to essential and cydia (no extensions). Using SSH or some other method, get the files into the folder /var/stash on your i-device. Using MobileTerminal on the device or an SSH terminal on your computer, enter the following commands on your i-device (unfortunately you can't use the WinSCP terminal for this, because you can't type the response "Yes, do as I say!"; you need a real terminal, either on the iDevice or your computer):

alpine (or your own root password)
apt-get remove cydia (at this point it asks you to enter "Yes, do as I say!")
Yes, do as I say!
cd /var/stash
dpkg -i essential cydia (or whatever names you gave the two deb files)

Then respring or reboot your i-device.

If you need to put MobileTerminal on your device, you can get Saurik's version at the following link and install it by Method 1 or Method 2. This works on 4.x:
