With hopes of securing an iPad 2 in a couple of days, I'd also really like to be able to use the CCK (Camera Connection Kit) to give me full USB access. I know that the iOS 4.0 update dropped the provided voltage down to below what's needed for a lot of devices, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to restore the voltage back up to normal? Ideally I'd love to be able to connect external USB drives for video watching :)

I hadn't heard of that, but I would think it would be a limitation on current draw, not voltage. I have seen USB cables that have a second USB connector for power only, so that you plug the first (data+power) connector into the computer and the power only plug into a secondary USB power source to supplement the power from a wimpy computer USB jack.

Yup, I know what you mean, got some connectors like that, but I've read one report that even providing the extra power via a powered USB hub doesn't fix the problem. Suspect I might need info from a hardware engineer here.
