Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

Question

Hi everyone. I cannot get my iPod 3G, 4.2.1 into DFU mode. I tried everything. I tried sn0wbreeze, I tried greenpois0n, I tried the iTunes technique, but nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Check this good YouTube for entering DFU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5LJfgz5Sy4 just skip the sarcastic detailed language by @KOI2281, if your screen is black (DFU mode) after this process and your GP and itunes still do not detect your phone correctly, then it could be a driver problem, either reinstall iTunes or follow the steps in the following answer link:

Thanks!! It was the driver update that worked!! I didn't have an icon, so I went to the Control Panel, then Device Manager, then install driver. I used Shut Down, 10s Power+Home, Xs release power, and wait until iTunes recognizes it. THANKS!!! EDIT: It just said Jailbreak Failed. Why?

Nope, it still doesn't work, even with Redsn0w. Is it possible to restore it, using 4.2.1?

You can only restore if you have the SHSH keys for 4.2.1

you can check and save any available SHSH for your device bby using TinyUmbrella from here http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

the keys or blobs SHSH for your device can be acquired using TinyUmbrella, if you haven't done ths already, start TinyUmbrella, connect your device, your device will appear in the left side of TinyUmbrella, select your device and click the button "Save SHSH" it will run and show you what firmware blobs it saves, it should at least get you the 4.3 blobs which are not useful now but will indicate if its running properly or not, any other version blobs it retreives will have already been saved back when Apple used to issue them for your specific device.
