So im about to jailbreak my ipod touch ( mc model running fairly newly installed iOS 4.2.1 never been jailbroken before) i was just wondering what tools/combo of tools i should use to have the most success with jailbreaking. Thanks for listening and answering! Thanks! ~ace |

Just download Sn0wbreeze (the big blue download button on the right). You should also get iREB from the same site (that's the big blue download button in the middle), as it's a handy utility to have. You'll need a copy of your firmware if you don't already have it. Then run Sn0wbreeze and drag your ipsw to it, and follow the instructions. It's very straightforward. The custom firmware it builds will have Cydia installed. So im guessing that all of my current apps that i have installed would be deleted in the process? ( probably an obvious answer, but i have to ask ) Yes. Rt-click your device in itunes, choose back up, then jailbreak, then restore from backup. im sorry im a bit confused still, so once you jailbreak with sn0wbreeze, you restore with itunes from a backup that was from before you jailbroke? wouldnt that cancel the jaibreak or am i just being slow/confused/ignorant ( sorry for all the questions, just a little bit nervous since ive never jailbroken before) The rt-click device menu restore is NOT the same as restoring firmware, it just restores your content (apps, settings), not the firmware. Oh! Alright i get it now, thanks so much, cant wait to finally jailbreak! As long as you back up like I said earlier, you can't screw up your ipod. You have a 2g, so you can't even update to un-jailbroken 4.3 if you wanted to, and you never have to worry about SHSH's. No problem, it's better to be cautious than not. Enjoy! |
