How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hello everyone!

Here's the issue I have going on as of right now.

I was looking at an image within the newest update from iFile. I clicked the home button to just close iFile. My phone crashed into Safe Mode.

If I tap the status bar and try to click restart, nothing happens.

If I reboot, my phone reboots directly into Safe Mode.

If I go into Cydia and put Cydia Substrate, Preference Loader, and Substrate Safe Mode into the queue and reinstall them all at once, I'm still respringed into Safe Mode.

I've tried reinstalling those 3 packages seperatly and the same end result happens.

The only way I've been able to correct it is by uninstalling Mobile / Cydia Substrate and reinstalling the few tweaks I had all over again.

My question to the community is, has anyone else ever encountered this? If you have, have you figured out how to jump out of Safe Mode without having to uninstall Cydia Substrate?

Any information on this would be great since most of the web doesn't really have answers for this specifc crash as of right now to my knowledge.

what do you have installed in cydia?

nice title edit but that doesnt answer the question

I have a typical list of a few tweaks like I would any other jailbroken device I've had from iOS 6, 5, and 4. Lol! I think I may be pushing 7 a little hard but this list isn't all that bad where you would think it would keep looping me directly back in to Safe Mode.

bitesms doesnt work unless the beta
icleaner (dunno if updated but causes more issues than it ever helps)

(31 Dec '13, 16:47) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

I have the latest Beta of BiteSMS. When I was jailbroken on 6.1.2, I've never had a problem with iCleaner. I used it somewhat frequently and it has always worked fine for me.

I agree Dark, I've used icleaner regularly and never had a problem, I think the people who have problems are those that use this great tweak blindly! :)

I 100% agree with you Sandy. iCleaner requires a bit of research to use properly. If you just switch a bunch of functions, you could potentially harm your device.

I'm just struggling with determining what is causing my device to be stuck in Safe Mode. This isn't the first time it's happened either. On top of that, I haven't noticed a specifc pattern that causes this either. It's always been something random that I tap, click, swipe and then it crashes and stays in Safe Mode.

easiest but most time consuming is remove cydia substrate and let it remove all tweaks. reinstall tweaks 1 by 1 till it happens

(31 Dec '13, 17:03) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

I agree with uninstalling Cydia Substrate but at the same rate.....That's a pain when I've done that a few times now and I'm still not able to determine it. :/

(31 Dec '13, 17:05) DarkXShadowX21 DarkXShadowX21's gravatar image

I also have a 4s have alot of the same tweaks except Sircarius, wonder if that may be the problem?

(31 Dec '13, 17:05) sandyv sandyv's gravatar image

I'm currently removing tweaks 1 by 1. I'll post an update shortly about the progress.

(31 Dec '13, 17:13) DarkXShadowX21 DarkXShadowX21's gravatar image

I've removed everything and reinstalled the 3 primary packages. I've respringed & rebooted and I'm still in Safe Mode :/

A restore isn't necessary. Like I mentioned in my first post, I inquired about how to jump out of Safe Mode without having to uninstall Cydia Substrate. That's what the goal of this post is for.

Yeah sorry, well good luck figuring it out!

(31 Dec '13, 17:42) sandyv sandyv's gravatar image

Thanks! I have all the same tweaks reinstalled and so far everything seems to be back in working order. This doesn't solve this issue though. I'm sure it's bound to happen again randomly. Also, this issue should stay open for anyone else who comes across this same issue as well.

iFile is what makes my iPhone get stuck in safe mode. I used it again to edit some file names and closed out of it. Once I closed out of it to the springboard, it crashed back into Safe Mode. Now I'm back in Safe Mode without knowing how to get out of it without uninstalling and reinstalling Cydia Substrate....

I don't believe iFile was the issue. I finally managed to jump out Safe Mode without uninstalling Cydia Substrate!

After I reinstalled Cydia Substrate, I download Zeppelin Beta iOS 7 first just because I wanted that first. With that being said, I got kicked right into Safe Mode. I uninstalled Zeppelin Beta and I was not in safe mode anymore.

I'm now able to respring and reboot without being thrown into Safe Mood!

Having Winterboard installed is also a risk you should watch out for. If you have Winterboard installed and try to do a search in Spotlight, your phone will crash into SafeMode. Luckily, then only thing you have to do to fix this crash is simply respring.

Would this even be necessary even after the new Cydia Substrate? This was used as a temp work around until Mobile Substrate was updated. Saurik recommended not to use these if we didn't have to.

(01 Jan '14, 16:34) DarkXShadowX21 DarkXShadowX21's gravatar image

What recent tweak did you install try removing it, if nothing happens reinstall cydia substrate and preference loader

(01 Jan '14, 16:50) Jackb2296 Jackb2296's gravatar image

I've already tried that. I'm thrown back into Safe Mode after the respring. If I reboot, I'm still thrown back into Safe Mode. The last tweak I installed was SwipeSelection. I know that wasn't the cause of the issue though because the last time this happened I was in iFile specifically. The same thing happened twice now. I close out of iFile after making an edit to something and springboard crashes into SafeMode and I haven't figured out a way to kick back out of it yet.

The only way I have been able to get out of it is by uninstalling Cydia Substrate and starting all over again....That's a major pain the butt to have to keep on doing though. [UPDATE] I went ahead and tried this anyway just to see if it would of been a possible solution. It doesn't work at all.

its a known issue for ifile

(01 Jan '14, 17:20) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

What are you doing in Ifile ?, just remove the it and wait for a fix to be released

(01 Jan '14, 17:49) Jackb2296 Jackb2296's gravatar image

iFile was updated. There was the licensing issue before. That is no longer the case. My license is able to be verified. I do believe iFile is the cause of this issue though since it's happened to me twice now.

(01 Jan '14, 17:57) DarkXShadowX21 DarkXShadowX21's gravatar image

How did you find out it was a known issue for iFile on iOS 7.0.4 iP4S? @theiphoneguy

(01 Jan '14, 18:00) DarkXShadowX21 DarkXShadowX21's gravatar image

@Jackb2296 "What are you doing in iFIle?" Read my large comment a few comments up. Hopefully there will be an update to this soon. I'm going to notify the developers of this problem so they can work on a solution. They may not know about it after their latest update.
