How to fix some mysterious problems.

According to my Touch, it's failed to get Apple55L8920XARM7M 10 times. Why? And how can this be fixed? Or is it supposed to happen?

It sounds like your Touch needs to get restored, but give us more information on how this message comes up (i.e what action makes it come up) and also what SW version you're running and if this is the iTouch 4.

Did you update to 4.3 in iTunes? If you did, that's why. There is no (well almost no) jailbreak for 4.3 yet.

You use TinyUmbrella, firstly it can pull your shsh's saved on Cydia to your hard drive, just by connecting your iphone while it's open and hitting 'save shsh' you can then use/start the TSS server and then shift (PC) alt (Mac) - restore in itunes to a 4.2.1 ipsw, itunes gets redirected away from Apple to your hard drive for the signing/verification of the 4.2.1 restore using those shsh's you just pulled.....the other option is to use TinyUmbrella to 'set hosts to cydia on exit' under advanced tab, then do the restore thing as above, but this time the signing/verification goes to Cydia servers where your shsh's are stored.

You can always check where your hosts file is pointing by clicking on or typing into your comp browser gs.apple.com you will either see an Apple page or a Cydia page, so whatever you see is where you're pointing to.....clever s**t huh. Everyone pulls their shsh,s to their hard drive for back up anyway, regardless if you use them via TSS server, you can just use the ones on Cydia if you so wish.

No good, that's the error you get for when trying to run GP on a 4.3 device :(

That was actually intended for @mathieuvp, below, who has shsh's for 4.2.1. It got bumped up here when I voted it up.

Uhoh. I think I did. Is there any way to 'reverse' the process?

Only if you saved your shsh's before yesterday. Have you jailbroken this device at any time before yesterday?

No, this is my first time jailbreaking.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll have to wait for 4.3 to be jailbroken. There is some hope though: I'm testing a tethered 4.3 jailbreak as we speak, see http://jailbreakqa.com/questions/20966/43-jailbreak-for-windows

Make sure you really did go to 4.3 though. Look in Settings/About on your iPod.

Yes.

(12 Mar '11, 23:11) Bekaji Bekaji's gravatar image

how could you save your shsh's and how does those work?

(13 Mar '11, 17:42) mathieuvp mathieuvp's gravatar image

@mathieuvp -

If you're not jailbroken use TinyUmbrella to start the process, or when you first jailbreak Cydia should offer you the option to 'make my life easier' to start the process, or failing that there is an app on Cydia called iSHSHit to start the process. Once Cydia is triggered to start saving shsh's by any of the methods, it will continue to auto grab shsh's for your idevice for every subsequent firmware release, doesn't matter what your firmware version is, it will just grab the latest available.

Notcom explains it well/simply in his FAQ

aha :)I did click on 'make my life easier' so its all fine for me so long as I am running my 4.2.1 or I upgrade to 4.3 I still can restore it back?

(14 Mar '11, 16:44) mathieuvp mathieuvp's gravatar image

Depends on when you did that. If it was before last Friday, you're golden. If not, you can't restore to anything but 4.3.

if you upgrated to 4.3 it deosnt work so what you do is go to dfu mod again and then hold the sleep and home botton for ten seconds then wait for the apple sign to get out then your ok. just wait til 4.3 gets out then you will be happy :)
