Hi. Simple question. How to install 4.2.1 to an iPhone 4 with 4.1 now when 4.3 is out. Download the ipsw - shift restore?

Click on this link if it goes to Cydia you need it to go to Apple. I think you're sending itunes to the wrong place for the signing

error 3014 comes up if there is a wrong entry for in the hosts file, or if you have a block on ports 443 or 80 for somereason along the way on the internet connection (such as the router/modem)

Ok, I'll check on that soon! Thanks for the tips so far!

Nice one, thats the end of that.

Error 3194

Occurs when trying to install an old firmware and Apple's server disallows the installation. The only solution is to have SHSH backup and modify the hosts file to point to Saurik's Cydia Server where they are backed up (or localhost if you have it yourself).

And now I dont have 4.2.1 shsh for this phone :( Guess its 4.3 for this phone then. Lucky it's only for dev and nothing I use as my main phone.

i don't know if apple is still signing 4.2.1. but if you have SHSH for 4.2.1, you can restore to it while running TSS server on TinyUmbrella.

Just like you said OP, if it's still being signed, as I think it is, it should be ok to just shift restore. If you've never grabbed your shsh's before then an easy way to check and a failsafe is to download TinyUmbrella and connect your iphone (no jailbreak required for this) and hit save shsh, watch the log and if it gets 4.2.1 then you know it's still being signed. If it's not and you didn't get 4.2.1 shsh's then you're SOL.

I'm trying to check if apple are still signing 4.2.1 using Tu, but it's running rather weird, it failed to grab 4.2.1 the first time, but will not function properly for a another try, it could be that the signing has stopped.Yep just got the same thing again, 4.2.1 was not saved, there's nothing wrong with my connection so it could be all over. Anyone can double check, don't pull them from Cydia though if you have them saved there.

Looks like they've stopped. I get nothing, using the same steps as yesterday with no results today.

Ok, it must be all over, thanks for checking spockers...although TU seems to be acting weird, I used to get blue loading bar across the bottom when hitting save shsh, but it doesn't do that and just spins a wheel (Mac styley)

(11 Mar '11, 14:59) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

I guess the real sure-fire test would be a restore to 4.2.1 without cydia server, anyone game? ;)

Well that was my second guess on the fail for the OP.

(11 Mar '11, 15:19) venusanann venusanann's gravatar image

It's official. I just tried a stock 4.2.1 restore and iTunes hangs at "Verifying iPod restore with Apple." Finally it gave me a 3194 error.
