How to fix some mysterious problems.

Now that I'm a little more educated I discovered I bought a GSM iPhone 5 that is locked by a local carrier. They do not unlock the phone like AT&T and the other big guys do.

I use Net10 which utilizes the AT&T infrastructure in my area.

I want to jailbreak my phone primarily to create a wifi hotspot, but am sure I will discover many other advantages once I can get to Cydia.

QUESTIONS: If I buy an iphone 4 ios 6.1.2 that is jailbroken ($100 on craigslist) and back it up with itunes, can I then restore it to my iPhone 5?

Once my iPhone 5 is jailbroken, will it be carrier unlocked? If not, how do I carrier unlock it once it is jailbroken.

If I retain the 6.1.2 ios backup will I be able to restore that backup to other/future iphones and jailbreak it with evasion?

MVNO's that use att dont need unlocked. If you look at the ICCID (sim card numbers) you'll see the net 10 and att sim are simillar (the first 5 of the ICCID identify the carrier). The phone will see it as an att sim due to that and work like normal, no unlock needed

Restoring an iTunes backup won't jailbreak the device.

Sorry, I was not clear. The iphone 5 is carrier locked by GCI. They will not unlock the phone. GCI uses the same GSM phones and banwidth as att. An att phone works fine on their network.

My goal is to jailbreak my iphone 5 and carrier unlock it. I have a net10 sim which works fine in my att unlocked iphone. At least until I broke the phone.

There is no software unlock for iP5. An unlock option is to pay for IMEI unlocking from legit providers like iProservice and cutyoursim.

if it uses att's network it should just work, but i dont know. what is the first 6 numbers on the sim card itself. Not the whole number
