Now that I'm a little more educated I discovered I bought a GSM iPhone 5 that is locked by a local carrier. They do not unlock the phone like AT&T and the other big guys do. I use Net10 which utilizes the AT&T infrastructure in my area. I want to jailbreak my phone primarily to create a wifi hotspot, but am sure I will discover many other advantages once I can get to Cydia. QUESTIONS: If I buy an iphone 4 ios 6.1.2 that is jailbroken ($100 on craigslist) and back it up with itunes, can I then restore it to my iPhone 5? Once my iPhone 5 is jailbroken, will it be carrier unlocked? If not, how do I carrier unlock it once it is jailbroken. If I retain the 6.1.2 ios backup will I be able to restore that backup to other/future iphones and jailbreak it with evasion? |
MVNO's that use att dont need unlocked. If you look at the ICCID (sim card numbers) you'll see the net 10 and att sim are simillar (the first 5 of the ICCID identify the carrier). The phone will see it as an att sim due to that and work like normal, no unlock needed |
