How to fix some mysterious problems.

@kirb very generously wrote some mobile CSS for JailbreakQA, @iAdam1n added some more and I (@britta) added a little more to the stylesheet, and I just enabled it. Yay!

Try it out on your iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, iPod touch, Android, Kindle, or other favorite mobile device, and let us know if you notice anything that looks wrong, or if you have suggestions for making it better.

Known issues:

  • User profile pages needs more attention to be able to fit the page correctly (specifically the tags and badges tables).
  • "User tools" is not clickable on recent activity pages.
  • The "email subscriptions" edit page is badly messed up.
  • Display does not fit the page correctly on user pages and question pages like it does on the home page.

  • If you have a massive bio, you have to scroll down on the section to see all of the bio.

Many thanks to kirb and iAdam1n for working on this.

There is also now a nice icon when you use Safari's "Add to homescreen" option for bookmarking on your Springboard. Thanks to @jq- for this!

Changelog (16 November 2014):
1. Fixed the "Ask a Question" page to make the "Title" and "Tags" bar fit the page.
2. Fixed the badges on user pages and badge page to use one line instead of two.
3. Added the "karma history" etc bar.
4. Updated user pages to look more mobile friendly (still more to go).
5. Removed badges from the top of the page to add more room for the questions and to be able to add "karma history" etc bar.

No problem.

Weird stuff going on though while I assume the update was being pushed, the comments could be scrolled. Fixed now though.

What does everyone think of this new design for the ask a question button and search bar?

Nice! That looks so much better!

Adding "Unanswered Questions" tab bellow the search bar would make it better, but other then that,it is awesome :D

(11 May '14, 12:34) King Shoot King%20Shoot's gravatar image

Thats unneeded, I asked britta about those buttons.

(11 May '14, 12:38) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

It doesn't show like that on my iPhone 5s. On mine, the Ask a Question box is below the search bar

(13 May '14, 18:49) ConduciveMammal ConduciveMammal's gravatar image

This is a new design I came up with. It won't show like this until it's added by @britta.

(13 May '14, 18:52) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

Here are the differences in the code.

(20 May '14, 17:50) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

I have also made a minor edit to remove the badges on mobile. The diffs can be found here.

(11 Jun '14, 08:40) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

That would also be better.

(11 Jun '14, 10:22) Spydar007 Spydar007's gravatar image

I actually quite like the badges. It works fine with me

(11 Jun '14, 17:32) Hamza_ Hamza_'s gravatar image

I like them on desktop but think they can be done without on mobile. Also it makes the faq button go to the line below with the badges there and that is one reason why I did it, to save space.

(11 Jun '14, 19:31) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

Mine still have search bar longer than my screen

(29 Apr '15, 04:12) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

Would be nice if there is an option for desktop view.

Hmm, that would be somewhat complex to arrange - currently the mobile view is done with a very simple extra stylesheet, and an option like that would involve adding some JavaScript (and maybe saving the option in a cookie). If there's something particular that's useful about the desktop site, I could try to fix up the mobile stylesheet a bit to reflect that better...

(20 Oct '13, 02:32) britta britta's gravatar image

We discussed this in irc with kirb about not being able to view karma activity in users profiles while on mobile view. I was thinking that an option for desktop view would be the solution.

(20 Oct '13, 09:05) justinred ♦ justinred's gravatar image

Oh I see. I think it'd be easier to just fix that part. :)

(20 Oct '13, 22:55) britta britta's gravatar image

I actually have a kind of fix for the karma thing but the "active", "newest" and "most voted" buttons currently show still on the main site. Other than that, I have the code here to do it. Would people still like it if it includes that?

(11 Jun '14, 08:47) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

I have found a bug when viewing the badges page. The badges take up two lines and the text overlaps.

What device? I also ran it on the Xcode simulator for iOS 6.1 and it happened.

iPod Touch 4.

(10 May '14, 17:59) King Shoot King%20Shoot's gravatar image

What about if you moved the badge description below the badge name and number of people who have it? Kind of busy for the next 4 days (finals), but after that I'd be happy to help out!

(11 Jun '14, 10:17) pzp1997 pzp1997's gravatar image

Without looking too closely at the source code, I assume that the Ask a Question Title and Tags are <form><input type="text"></input></form>. If this assumption is correct, why not specify the width (or max-width) of input[type=text] as a percentage.

(11 Jun '14, 10:30) pzp1997 pzp1997's gravatar image

I'm not sure it would work great but can take a look later tonight.

(11 Jun '14, 12:50) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

I have made it look like the image below if everyone likes it. The badge without the tick is because I don't have that badge so it shows the whole design.

(11 Jun '14, 14:08) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

Dont want to drive you crazy, but maybe you could line up the description with the badge name? The description would just be a few more pixels closer to the right.

(11 Jun '14, 16:04) pzp1997 pzp1997's gravatar image

Fixed. Thanks. Diffs are here.

(11 Jun '14, 16:14) iAdam1n ♦ iAdam1n's gravatar image

Great work, guys!!!

How about a BACK button? After I read a question, going back home gets me back home. If I am 10 pages into the threads, it's extremely unproductive... Am I making sense? Thanks :)

JailbreakQA is designed to be used in a standard web browser, which will have a built-in "back" button. If you're visiting it from within Cydia for more than just a quick check, I recommend going to in Safari.
