How to use the chat

You can join the JailbreakQA help chat room by clicking here.

(Or if you already have a favorite IRC client, you can join the server and the channel #JailbreakQA.)

Chat rules

People in #JailbreakQA are expected to agree to these rules and guidelines. If you break a rule, you will probably get a warning first, although people discussing pirated software may be immediately kicked. If you ignore warnings, you may be muted or banned.

  1. Please read the channel topic before asking a question.
  2. Please do not ask how to remove/disable a passcode on a locked device (or how to bypass Activation Lock, also called iCloud lock), because there is no way to verify that the device is yours. We cannot help you bypass this.
  3. Please do not discuss piracy or beta versions of iOS. Please also don't discuss beta versions of OS X, to be fair. If something was in the WWDC keynote, that is OK to talk about, but please don't break your developer NDA by talking about betas beyond that (and please don't talk about getting betas without being a registered developer).
  4. Please do not abuse the bots or the people. In other words, please do not be rude or uncooperative. (Cursing is allowed, but not targeting another channel member, and not in a hateful manner.)
  5. Please do not send private messages to channel members without permission.
  6. Please do not spam the channel.
  7. If you get banned, please do not evade bans. There are other forums you can ask for jailbreaking help.
  8. Please do not bring bots into the channel without permission from the ops.
  9. Please do not change your nick to impersonate other people.
  10. If someone asks for assistance, please either help or be quiet.
  11. Discussion should attempt to be "rated" at most PG-13, in part because the channel often includes young people.
  12. This channel is not intended for people younger than 13; please see Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
  13. Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. speech is not welcome.
  14. As a channel on Freenode, we also abide by Freenode's policies and channel guidelines.

This IRC channel is primarily a support channel for, and secondarily a social channel for people who like to answer jailbreaking questions. Off-topic discussion is welcome when nobody is asking questions, but it should stick to the guidelines above. Please remember that JailbreakQA is linked from evasi0n, redsn0w, and Cydia; it represents the jailbreaking community to new users.

Even though this is a public channel, it is not officially publicly logged, and we politely ask others to not post public logs either. But if you participate in the channel, please be aware that your words can still be copy-and-pasted elsewhere and taken out of context.

If you have comments, suggestions, or questions about these rules, feel free to ask an op (the people with @ in front of their usernames in the channel). britta is also always happy to discuss the rules, especially if they seem unfair to you. You are welcome to send her a message on IRC if you would like to talk about them.

This question is marked "community wiki".
