How to fix some mysterious problems.

Ok so I have an old jailbroke iPod and I wanted to give it away with no data on it and I thought it would be a good idea to erase all content and settings. So when I tried it , it began the spinning reboot icon and has not stopped. Please help!

You have to restore it in iTunes. You should never use that when jailbroken.

Yes I wish I would have known that when I did it. I have tried connecting it to a computer via USB port and it is unresponsive on iTunes.

Use iFaith's "Dump" button before you do anything else to save the 6.1.2 blobs, then use iFaith's "Build" button to restore to 6.1.2. Have the person you give it to also "Dump" the blobs with iFaith. This is the only way they'll ever be able to restore to 6.1.2, if you don't do this you can only restore it to 6.1.3, which is a semi-tethered jailbreak.

Ok but I'm trying to unjailbreak it at the same time if that makes a different answer. I was trying to make it as if it was brand new.

That will unjailbreak it. It will restore to clean out-of-the-box 6.1.2, and the new owner can jailbreak it. Just make sure to either give him the 6.1.2 blobs on a thumbdrive or tell him how to save them. Once you restore to 6.1.3 you can't get 6.1.2 blobs unless you've saved them beforehand.

Ok thanks for the help

No problem.. and your data is already gone from it anyway, the only reason it's in a bootloop is because the jailbreak moves system files around in such a way that the "erase all" function doesn't know where to find everything.
