How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi everyone,

I'm in bit of a bind, I have my jailbroken iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1(9A406) and am facing issues after I reset all settings on the phone. (long story...) I would like to stay on 5.0.1 or 5.1.1, just not restore to 6.x

For some reason, I don't have a shsh blob for 5.0.1, I've used cydia for well over a year and for some reason it never automatically cached the blob for me.. What I do have is a 5.1.1 blob which I obtained via TinyUmbrella & backed up to file.

After reading all the FAQ, posts, etc, it looks like I have no choice than to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 if I want to avoid iOS 6.x and stay on iOS 5.x as the only blob I have is for 5.1.1

I have used redsn0w 0.9.15b3 and tried to do a restore in the "even more" section of the "extras". I add the 5.1.1 IPSW, it asks for the 5.0.1 IPSW as well and I add the local 5.1.1 blob. the restore starts, asks me if I want to continue due to being a 4S & reset basedband warning, I click yes, however the restore fails with "invalid logo", it then will kick back out of restore mode and I am back to square 1.

Am I able to restore to a 5.1.1 with the current firmware & blobs that I have, or do I really have no choice and have to restore to 6.1.3?

whats strange is it seems like I never obtained a 5.0.1 SSH blob when using cydia, is there anyway whatsoever to extract it? I have several old iTunes backups from past years past, could it perhaps be in there so I can extract it?

many thanks for your assistance & answers.

If your SHSH isn't backed up by Cydia and you didn't back them up manually, you're just too late. (Being on an iOS version doesn't automatically mean you'll have SHSH for it either; you need to open Cydia while that version is the latest for it to back them up.) You should really try checking the FAQ to see if you can find instructions to fix what is broken on 5.0.1.

thanks Kirb,

IF I understand you correctly, regardless that I have a SHSH blob for 5.1.1, as I don't have the one for 5.0.1 which is my current firmware, I am basically screwed. I can't do anything at all (not even upgrade to 5.1.1) except upgrade to 6.1.3 which is the current firmware open on the apple server?

I don't understand why I can't upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 with my 5.1.1 SHSH blob, why do I need my original 5.0.1 SHSH blob?

Is there not anything else I can try?

thanks again.

The restore function requires the SHSH for the firmware you're currently on and the one you want to upgrade/downgrade to. It's required for the restore to work and there's no way around it. Again you should take a look at the FAQ for instructions on fixing the issues that caused you to want to update to 5.0.1.

P.S I have broken the something that keeps my iPhone in "Dock Connector" mode(when its not docked) so I can't use the internal speaker, I can plug in the headphones and get sound, however it will resort back to dock connector randomly.. quite annoying... (I was fooled by my mobile company into doing a reset to fix a voice message issue, I knew better than to listen to em)

P.S.S, I was thinking of removing all cydia installs manually and doing a aptbackup restore to see if it fixes the issue, I also wanted to restore from scratch to see if it wasn't a hardware issue. Ta.
