Yes, Sn0wbreeze 2.2 final was reported to support iPod Touch 2G without a dependency towards the bootrom version. It uses the same kernel based exploit used by greenpois0n by the way.

You should use Redsn0w to Jailbreak your Device..use the latest Redsn0w and it will help!

Open task manager, go to processes, look for iTunesHelper.exe, end process, make sure iTunes in closed, and rerun Greenpois0n. ((Delete temp files left over from last attempt))

redsnow is not working in ipod touch 2g MC model, even the latest version and while greenpoison can jailbreak but it can't install cydia cause it required more disk space even if i freshly restored my ipod, no music, video and pic..i already try this jailbreakers on how many times but still not working....any idea?

Starting from fresh 4.2.1 device use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to get Cydia and a tethered JB (this is the downside for MC model), then run GP to untether.

When the device is tethered, you have to boot it with redsn0w by selecting the "Boot Tethered Now" box in the redsn0w software.

It gave me that message a few times too. If you redo it, just don't dismiss the message, and cydia will install

Spent most of yesterday helping a guy get his iPod touch 3g jailbroken. After many failed attempts, I asked him what the model number on the back was. Turns out he had a 2g. So, @spite, here's your solution. Go to and get your firmware. Specifically, you'll need,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

Then go to and download sn0wbreeze. Run sn0wbreeze, drag the file you just downloaded above onto it and follow the instructions. Choose simple mode. When it's done, your ipod will be in DFU mode and you'll have a custom ipsw on your desktop. Open iTunes, hold shift and click the restore button. Point it to the snowbreeze firmware on your desktop. When it's done, you'll be jailbroken with cydia working. Make sure you back up first as this will wipe your iPod. This is only for Windows.
