How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have a source 3GS running ios 6.1 and a destination iPhone4 on ios 6.1.2

the 3GS has thousands of photos and videos in dozens of albums

is there an easy way to copy the albums+photos+videos from the 3GS to the 4? I don't care at all about any existing photo data on the 4.

i tried to rsync /var/mobile/media/DCIM and /var/mobile/media/PhotoData. after the rsync + after I took a picture with the Camera app, i saw all the 3gs pictures in the "Camera Roll" album, all low-res. I also saw all the other albums there, but all empty.

any other ideas ?

On an iOS device, even if not JB, the picture folders is the only area Apple lets you access freely from a computer.

Therefore, you should be able to transfer (or simply copy) the pics from one to another.

  1. On your computer, create a folder for the pics (3GS for instance);
  2. Plug the 3GS, dismiss iTunes and with a file explorer, dig into your 3GS to the Digital Camera Image Manager (DCIM) folder;
  3. Copy the whole thing into the folder you just created on your computer;
  4. Unplug the 3GS, plug in the 4, dismiss iTunes, and copy either the pics or the folders from the computer to the 4;
  5. If it doesn't work, you can select in iTunes for the iPhone 4 a folder to sync pictures, which would be the folder named 3GS you just created.

Hope this helps,

A really great app on iTunes is Photo Transfer App. It's $2.99 but it transfers whatever you select to your a temporary Internet page and then you can just put them on the phone or your PC. I love it.

Go to the App Store download " Transfer" it's a awesome app. Works perfect. This will let you transfer your pictures and videos. It has a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. This app doesn't take away any picture or video quality either. It's a must have.
